I know you've already decided, but maybe next trip you can try off property. My family and I stayed for about two weeks last summer, and half the time we stayed off property, half at a value resort. I believe off-property was cheaper, had a wonderful on-site breakfast buffet with lots of fresh and filling choices; a wonderful pool and hot tub where we loved relaxing after a long day at the parks; a poolside bar and pizza grill; and HUGE, super clean, wonderful rooms. The value hotel (pop century) was terrible in comparison - the room was super tiny, seemed old and dusty, the pools were noisy and crowded (unlike the quiet and relaxing one at the off-property resort), you could hear through the walls - it was just not worth it. The only huge plus was the shuttle buses because we did not use the magic hours - regular park hours were plenty of time for us. Since we went to the off-property resort first before switching to the value, it seemed like we moved from luxury to a cheap motel. Also, although the food court is large, it seemed very unsanitary and the food unappetizing. When we ordered noodles, we saw that some fell on the counter as they were putting it in the box but they just took it off the counter and put it into the container and gave it to us. Maybe I'm picky, but I MUCH preferred the beautiful, quiet, clean and scenic off-property site. We stayed at the Point Orlando Resort. You may also be able to get some good deals there, whereas Disney just jacks up the price during the summer.
(Nothing against Disney by the way, I loved the parks, rides and shows, it is to be expected from a value resort -- it's just that you can stay at a much lovelier place for the same price. The Point Resort where we stayed,by the way has complimentary shuttle service to Disney, Universal and Sea World. We went to all three during our stay, and used the shuttle or a cab.)
