I am hoping to rent a car for a side-trip to Gatorland during our upcoming trip. We will be staying at WL so I would like to know whether I can pick up a rental car anywhere fairly convenient to WL, use it for a couple of hours, and then return it? Anyone done this? is it possible? Any idea of cost?

Thanks!

Both Alamo and National have two locations (share desks)one at the CCC near MK and at the guest services area in the Dolphin Resort.

We usually rent from the Dolphin and from whichever company has the best rate.

You can check rates online at their websites to see what the cost might be.

I believe they offer a pickup and dropoff shuttle service if arranged in advance.

The pick up an drop off service was great. We did exactly what you are doing this past June, rented a car just for one day to go to Gatorland and to drive from Coronado Springs resort to Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner at Jiko's. After we dropped the car off in the morning we asked the bus driver to drop us off at EPCOT and he gladly did.

You said you only want the car for a few hours but you'll be paying for a 24 hour period. You might think about how to use the extra time. Drive to other resorts, DTD, outlet shopping, groceries etc.

We use the service at the Dolphin every time-seems to save us a bit on fees that you have to pay at the airport.

Do visit some of the other resorts - we find it very cool to see what they have to offer. We also find it very convenient to be able to drive to DTD and back to our resort especially in the evenings.

DutchsMommy-thanks for the good wishes-Can't wait-we got a pile of snow here last night and I'll be happy to leave it behind us!

I have always rented from MCO to save time and trouble, but out of curiosity just now I priced a mid-size for my upcoming MouseFest trip (Nov30-Dec5) from Alamo, using my Sams Club discount codes, and got the following prices:

From MCO - $150.93
From Dolphin - $188.76
From Car Care Center - $188.76

Of course, for a single day rental, the convenience of the Disney locations more than makes up for a $4 or $5 per day price difference, but on a week long rental, the price difference is significant.

For a one or two day rental, definitely use the Disney locations.

However, if you are renting for the length of your stay, I recommend pricing your car out from all three locations before deciding on one.

Using the amex contract id and entertainment upgrade coupon we have a fullsize car for three day beginning of december for a total of $54.25-really depends on the contract id, coupons and location.

I think with BJ contract ID (?) it eliminates the airport concession fee.

You really have to play around with them sometimes to come up with a good rate.

Same contract id/coupon combination is $68.42 at the airport.

try priceline and you can choose downtown disney as one of your locations. we wanted to rent an SUV originally to get us to and from MCO and because we're visiting DH's dad while were in town. DH went to school in Orlando and managed bars out there before we met so i want to sightsee a lil, in that respect. Its for a week...cheapest we were finding was 300-400 dollars. Then we were going to downgrade to a full size car and just do it a few days. I tried priceline last night for the heck of it and I ended up renting an SUV from Alamo at MCO for the whole time for $220! Huge deal, i thought
