I notice on the Disney website that it is $160 for a pref room and $160 for a water view room. Are preferred rooms all water view or how does that work exactly? Do you have to pay extra for water view?

One or the other. While there are obviously Preferred rooms with water views, you can't reserve both. You can reserve a Preferred location, and request a water view.

Preferred rooms are in the two 'islands' closest to Port Royale (see any CBR map for more specific information). Remember that even in these buildings, some rooms have to be the furthest away from 'everything'.

Water view rooms are rooms whose window faces the lake, or a pool, or a fountain, or a puddle... not even necessarily head-on, you may need to look to one side or the other. Also, given that there's a public walkway adjacent to your room, and between your window and any 'view', well, it's up to you to decide if you want to pay for a water view while passersby get to look in your room free.

We have done both and I have to say if you are going to spend the money, get preferred! SOOOO worth it.

We stayed preferred location in Dec '06 and were in Martinique (I think only 3 buildings in Martinique are preferred and a few in trinidada north). Our building was right in front of a nice little beach with hammocks and a 30 second walk to the foodd court and pool. It made it very easy to go for breakfast in the morning or run to the gift shop to get more diapers!:rotfl: The room actually faced the beach so we had waterview also. An extra bonus is that from Martinique you can see some of the Epcot fireworks (the high ones). We were able to stand outside our room and watch them.

We also had a waterview room in 99. Personally I feel if you do not have a balcony (which CBR does not) the waterview is wasted. We are not ones to leave our shades open (don't like everyone looking in at me), and don't sit outside our door in the walkway. That being said the only time we saw the water was entering or leaving the room.

Hope that helps.

super helpful, thank you! I always wondered if water view was even worth it if you didn't have your own private balcony...makes sense to just get preferred and see where they place you. I can always walk around the corner to the beach, right? Is Martinique the only place you can see Epcot fireworks? Is there a playground on Martinique? IF not, how far to the nearest playground? All of the quiet pools are heated right?

Quiet pools are heated. I know there is a playground on Jamaica's beach, but I don't recall one on Martinique. Maybe Trinidad North? I honestly don't remember. I am thinking that there are two playgrounds though.

The other playground is on the Barbados beach, on the Martinique end of it.
