Since we cannot lock our luggage at the airports any longer is it okay to use a luggage strap to keep the luggage secure from popping open. It also helps to identify your luggage on the carousel. They can still get into easily if they needed to and will they replace it once they open it?
TIA!

If you are traveling domestically you can still lock your luggage with a TSA approved lock. You can buy them at any Walmart, luggage store, travel store, they are readily available. Also I know at Newark, if you fly continental you can stand there as your bag is examined and then lock it in the presence of the TSA with ANY lock.

For those traveling internationally rememebr the TSA is a US thing. You need to look at the rules/regs of the country your flights orginate out of.

Or you can use wire ties, or zip cuffs/cords. I also used zip cords for international flights. On my last flight, a luggage carousel malfunctioned becuase a luggage strap got caught in it. I do use them, but to identify my bag not to keep secure or closed. One piece of my luggage is a rolling duffle bag that has seen better days. I pack a roll of duct tape to keep it secure.

As to replacing a strap if your bag is open, it's a crap shoot.

I always use a luggage strap around my luggage. I have this fear that my luggage will come down the carosel with my underwear hanging out. :scared1: My luggage has been opened by the TSA and the strap has been replaced.
That is only my experience.

Too funny!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I have that same fear.:rotfl2: I only pack brand new underwear. For the whole family. DH thinks I'm nuts.

I use TSA locks every time I fly domestically. You can find them at Target, Walmart, Magellan's, Travelsmith, etc.

And to take TSA locks a step further, you can purchase a version that lets you know if it has been opened by the TSA using a master key. You set the lock the code you want, using the dial. TSA uses a master key to open them. Some have a button that turns colors when opened with a key.

In my travels, I find Customs does a far worse job on repacking my luggage then TSA has ever done. Also, Customs/Immigration Agents are seperate from TSA they will break/cut off your locks for inspection.
