on hold... when do you give up?

or does it becomme a game of " Ive been on hold this long, I might as well wait it out"

I have been on hold with the State Department Visa division for an HOUR now after being told it would be 15 minutes

Now its a matter of " I can out last you!"




Can I tell you how glad I am that we have unlimited long distance as this was a TOLL CALL


so when do you normally give up on being hold?



btw, I have a really simple question that no one else can answer apparently. I have called 6 other divisions trying to find out the answer.

Sometimes I hang up and tell them NO I do not want to be put on hold as I have called before and waited X amount of time.

Twenty minutes is my breaking point.

WOHOOOOOOOOOOOOO exactly 1 hour and 10 minutes after reaching the computer atuomated voice telling me it would be 15 minutes I FINALLY GOT A LIVE PERSON... who wasnt very nice... was very "efficient" at least and simply gave me a phone number and said call here and write to this address...
I said, "what do I ask for when I write to them" ( as in what form do I need) she said " MA'AM you have just told ME what you need, tell THEM"

I need a banging my head against a brick wall smiley.




Good news, I called there got the information I needed and can now order my sons birth abroad certificate. Granted it will 2-3 months to receive it... but I never thought it was going to be easy.

I'll use the speaker phone and just leave it on while I work at my computer or whatever. It really depends on how important the question is.

When I first got it, I had trouble with my DSL line and would be on hold with tech support for hours. The longest was around 90 minutes.

I finally broke down and got a speakerphone. Having one was much better than spending an hour and a half holding the handset up to my head, muzak blasting into my ear, with my eyes glazed over and a trickle of drool coming out of the corner of my mouth. Now I can sit there with muzak blasting in BOTH ears, with my eyes glazed over and a trickle of drool coming out of the corner of my mouth....handsfree!

yeah I finally gave up and came back to the office to use the speaker phone but I was trying to get packed while waiting, that was such a hassle. Thankfully there was no hold music so I watched TV for a bit lol.
