I am confused about our FF miles.

We have miles that will expire. Let's say they will expire on 6/1/08.

Firstly, is there a way to extend that expiration date? I have seen posts that made it sound like making some type of purchase or something would extend the expiration date. Is the expiration based on the last time you have flown on Delta using your ff number?

Also, if they are going to expire on 6/1/08, do we need to fly by 6/1/08 or purchase tickets by 6/1/08 for travel sometime after that?

Thanks to the experts who can help me with this!

From what I understand, the expiration is based on when you last had ANY ACTIVITY in that account. We have extended the expiration date by taking a Delta credit card from the endless offers they send (Be careful -- the credit cards typically have a fee after one year, so be sure to cancel it if you don't want the fee.) Also, you can get Delta miles for flying on Northwest (and I think maybe Continental too....) My DH got Delta miles last year when we flew to MCO on Northwest. And, I haven't done it, but I think this would work too -- check out emiles.com -- it's easy to get the first 500 miles built up in your account, and you can put those miles in your Delta FF mile account. I THINK even that activity will extend your expiration date.

Hope that helps!!!:)

If worse comes to worst and you cannot find any really easy or useful way to earn or spend miles (in any fashion) and keep your frequent flyer account alive, see if you can find one of those flyers that let you order magazines for miles. Perhaps one subscription would cost as few as 1000 miles.

Thanks...this is very helpful. I didn't realize that we could extend the expiration by adding miles in some way other than flying. We used to fly Delta/Song to FL every year, but lately have used SW. We have over 100,000 miles and are hoping to go to Hawaii in 2009, but our current expiration is in 2008. I am going to find some cheap way to add some activity.
