On early entrance days to the Magic Kingdom

If the MK opens at 8AM, does that mean the turnstiles open then or do they open earier than that and let you on to main street prior to that and hold off on letting you in the rest of the park until 8?
I am just trying to figure out when to arrive at the turnstiles for the early entrance date.

in january 2004, we were able to get onto main street about 20-30 minutes early...we had to wait around the plaza pavillion, a CM help the rope for rope drop, so we were very close to tomorrowland at the official early entry opening time.

HOWEVER, in december 2004, this did not happen at MGM or MK. we were held outside of the turnstile/gate, and we were not allowed into the park at all until the early entry opening time.

The only park we have been admitted to early in our recent trips is Epcot, and entrance was allowed up to the rope at Space Ship Earth.

At MK we have not been allowed onto Main Street until park opening, and we have been there for both Early Magic and Regular openings.

Crowds must have been heavy during goofy4wdw2's visit.

cherylcheryl--you didn't say when you were going. on the slower/lower attendance days, you might be able to get on Main St. before "rope drop". We were there in the summer. We were thru security checks and passed thru ticket turnstiles and were at the gate waiting for them to let us in by 7:35am (EMH day). Promptly 8am, after the "official opening", we were let in. Either way....get there 1/2 hour (at least) before opening....there were a LOT of people waiting to get in!!! Have a fun time!!
