hi everyone....caitsmama's sister here,barbara....wondering what i got myself into.....lol.
let's see where to begin....i'm 27 and attempting to prepare for the 15k in may'08. i've never done a 15k before, but looking forward to it. pretty nervous about the whole thing, but wanted to set a goal for myself and go a little further than what i've done in the past. this is something that i want to do for me and prove to myself that if i want something bad enough, i can put in the hard work and get it! i want to be able to see the progress i am making along the way and support my sister through her training as well.

i am fairly active (enjoy walking/jogging and other outdoor activities for fun) but this will be the first event that i actually "train" for, so help or suggestions along the way greatly appreciated :) thought may 2008 5k/15k would be a great "girls weekend" when my sister brought it up to me. not a huge disney fan like her, but it sounded cool, and it would give us something to prepare for, and look forward to!

other info on me: live w/ my boyfriend of just over a year now, have 2 beautiful kitties, work in diagnostic imaging at a local hospital and love it, and blessed with an awesome family that i absolutely adore!!

so happy that i finally figured out how to log in, stay logged in, and post messages (thanks sta :) )
looking forward to meeting everyone!! :yay:

ok, october 2007.....let's see what we can do by may 2008!!!!

Hey girl! Glad you figured it all out -- now go back and edit your post, and start your journal! Tell us all about you!!

Now, thats a better entry barb!! LOL Gotta figure out where your siggy went though..

BTW -- saying your not a huge Disney fan on the DIS boards will get you whipped!!! LOL -- only kidding. ;)

HI Barbara!! :welcome: to the boards!!! You have come to the right place for encouragement!! Everyone here is AWESOME!!!

I look forward to reading about your training. I started this past January from scratch and I am training for the WDW Marathon in January. You can definetely do a 15k in May! Just follow your training plan and you will do great!!!

Welcome Barb,
It is great to have someone(a sister) to pair with to attempt a first race. I am jealous, it makes it so much easier. I don't dare bring it up to DH we were just there in Aug. But I would LOVE to be there.Everyone here is so supportive it helps you stay towards your goals.
Good Luck, see you on the boards,
Linda

Welcome to the DIS!!! My sister(larry's girl) and I are doing the 5K together in May at WDW. I think it's awesome you guys decided to have a girl's weekend. This is definately doable for you guys!!! Not sure if you have a training plan or yet, but I highly reccomend the book "Marathoning for Mortals" by John Bingham. The text is good and in the back there are few plans for training for a 15K and Marathon.

Welcome again! and Happy Training! :woohoo:

well......today finished week 5 of the c25k plan and am feeling more and more motivated (and scared quite a bit of what a 15k will be like) i did my w.o. at the gym today.....i feel that i can accomplish more mileage and better time on a mill than i can outside, but unfortunately the 15k isn't on a mill, it's outside, so i'm gonna try to divide up my time semi-evenly outdoors and at the gym. i think it's awsome to see everyone motivated to be healthy and supportive to others on their journey! kudos to all!!!!!!!

Barb,
Hey sis.. you totally rock. I am proud of you doing this!! Congrats on making it "real" today buy signing up!! There's no turning back now girl! We'll celebrate at Pleasure Island after the race! ;)
Love ya!

Hi Barb! :goodvibes Nice to meet ya! How awesome that you and your sister are able to go down to WDW that weekend and support each other (not to mention the support over the next several months). Enjoy it. I think a 15k is totally attainable since it sounds like you have a run/walk base going.

I give you lots of credit...I am a mill-hater. :headache: I'd much rather be outside and see my progress. I think splitting your time between the mill and the outside runs is a very wise idea.

Again, great to see you around here (even if you aren't a big Disney dork like me ;) ) and I look forward to following your progress.

well, today kinda stunk.....didn't do any exercise....was too tired and cold. my raynaud's disease is kicking in pretty early this year and a little stronger than years in the past. have a dr's appt tomorrow for my belly aches and such.....hopefully something will come out of it soon....i'm just not myself lately and it's getting worse lately. fam and friends helped keep my spirits up on such a yucky day. tomorrow's just around the corner! exhausted and off to bed!!! night.

(((Hugs))) Sis. I know.. new england in the cool weather isn't friendly to you.. but we're here for you. :) Cuz we love ya!

Hi Barb,
Keep your chin up,today is a new day.Stinks about the Raynaud's,will the exercise help though?

Running on the treadmill can be boring and predictable.Try outdoors before the weather gets bad and then you will better be able to judge for the 15K.

Have a good day,
Linda

Morning Sis.. hows it going today?? What's on your agenda?

Hey there! Sorry you're not feeling well! That stinks! Chin up chick! You will get through it!!!

Hope you feel better today!!!

PS. Thanks for checking in on my journal and the kind words!!! It will be great to meet you and your sis next year. My sis and I are doing the 5K in May. I know you're not, maybe we'll see you there cheering on caitsmama!!! :) If I can get up enough nerve and determination, I may see you at the 15K!

Have a good one!
Stacie

well, today was slighly better than yesterday.....at least i got exercise in. today was d1w6 of c25k. i jogged outside (which usually isn't my forte) but surprisingly it wasn't too bad (probably b/c it wasn't very cold) i had to push myself cuz i was still tired once again today. dr's appt went o.k. i guess.....not much was solved but 2 tests ordered so guess i just have to be patient and go with the flow......it just stinks when u know u are out of your element and no one can quite put their finger on the cause. thnaks for checkin in guys and the words of encouragement! :)

Hi Barb,

Welcome to the journals. How cool is it that you are doing this with your sister. I really wish my sister and I were as close as you two seem.

You are doing a great job with your training. You'' ROCK the 15k. I hope the docs can figure something out for you. It is frustrating not to feel like yourself, especially when you have a goal to work towards.

Take care,
Beth

Hey sis! Glad you made it out to exersise today!! Now we gotta start working on mom! LOL

Talk to you tomorrow am.. Have a good sleep!

Luv ya!

just checking in for today.....not much to report....went out for a 40 min walk and that was about it. wanted to do some pilates, but never quite made it. gonna go chow down a bit and get my last meal in before midnight for my test in the morning. (i hate fasting for exams.....i need to eat every 2 hours or so) :) check in tomorrow....goodnight! book "marathoning for mortals" should hopefully come in the mail tomorrow!
