This is the first time we will be at Disney with a pump. I had no clue about the magic bands, magnetics, etc causing problems. Our rep did tell us to avoid sending the PDM through the "xray" (lack of better word) machine. From what I have read, the pump will be fine around the magic bands and use on the ride.

My concern is will the g-force on the rides give my daughter more insulin than needed?

After 7 years we are excited to go to Disney without pulling needles out several times a day and can just insert a b/g # and VOILA insulin is delivered. :D

I've been to WDW several times since getting my Omnipod and haven't had any trouble with the rides....and I go on all of them. The rougher the better! I'm the designated "rollercoaster parent", so if it goes fast, upside down or in circles, I'm on it. I've even used it at Universal on their fast/scary rides and not had a problem. Have fun!

Not sure what brand my friend uses.. but he went on all the G force and water rides at Disney a year ago, then went on to six flags and did all the rides there without any issue to his pump...

I haven't had any trouble at WDW with my Omnipod - except the day I forgot to bring a change of pod with me to the park, and had to leave EPCOT to go back to the hotel when some sweat leaked under mine and made it peel off. it would have been a simple fix if I hadn't been so scatterbrained.

I did opt for the pat-down instead of the backscatter X-ray or whatever it's called that they had at the Orlando airport, as the Omnipod rep advised me to. My home airport is small and doesn't have anything like that, thank goodness.

I am not on the omnipod but you should be fine just make sure you bring extra supplies with you to the park you never know when your pod will come off you did not relish how much insulin you used you need to test more then you think ( or you do what I did and spill your test strips) you have more lows or highs then you think so do not bring extra pump stuff but testing low stuff and have a good time

We haven't been with the omnipod yet either but from my checking with our endo, she said the pumps places all say about the problems and disconnect, etc but she had never heard or had any people with problems like that. She thought we should call omnipod and ask but she thought it was no big deal. She has said in the past they (omnipod and other pump companies) are cautious (like don't take the insulin out of a failed pod-but everyone does kind of thing)
That said she thought bigger problems were not testing often enough for such a change in activity and not taking extra supplies. Eating foods w/o carb counts (so estimating more) and not staying hydrated. She said she really thought the extra activity and heat were what caused problems for most.
I look forward to not having to deal with needles on our trip as well:yay:

Thanks everyone. I just got off the phone with Insulet company (maker of Omnipod). The rep said no problems with the magic band or any other magnetic fields. YES, he said magic band. He knew ! LOL excites me that I did talk with someone who is well informed. Also, I was concerned about Mission space since it is a big centrifuge and it would give her extra insulin. He said, "No problems with that either." The only thing he stressed is to use hand wands instead of going through a metal detector.

Yes, thanks everyone I will remember to bring extra supplies. I typically do anyway when we are out from the house.

OH, I am even taking syringes for "just in case the pump fails." That should cover it, correct? Excited no more needles , hopefully, at Disney!!:cloud9:

I do usually carry needles. In a pinch I can do his novolog every couple hours til we can get a new pod. It has come in handy when we were camping when it sweat off and he was too sweaty to put a new one on. It let us finish our day (we just tested even more) without having to drop everything and make everyone stop.

I am curious though, did he say why the wand instead of metal detector? We are going to universal so I see that as a problem for us.
