Omni Championsgate?

Has anyone stayed at the Omni Championsgate? How long does it take to get to Disney from there?

Thanks!

Never stayed there, but you can get to Epcot in 10 or so minutes. AKL takes a little longer, but you can take the back way, avoiding I-4.

What is the "back way"? And, for some reason I thought I heard there was construction on that part of I-4, if so, is it done?

Thanks!

HI...the Omni sits like a huge thumbs up in the middle of nowhere! It is located in Champions Gate which is slowly growing because of the golf. I swear it is the only building above one story in the whole area and it looks like it is 100 stories!!!

If you hop on I-4 just outside the hotel, it will take you to the Disney entrance. It is quicker, I believe than the back entrance from Old Lake Wilson Road. I-4 is not that congested between the Omni and Disney as it is only a few miles. This new exit into Disney and Celebration is really nice...make sure and look for the mouse ears power line pole...kind of cool!

If you want to do the back way let us know and we will direct you past the new Reunion billion, thats "b" as in billion dollar golf course community, past Windham Palms, Windsor Hills and then over to 192 where you pick up Sherberth Rd "shortcut.".It is kind of a fun drive if you like high priced realestate!

Good Luck...Ted

We just stayed there for the first time in late July. Travelzoo had a great $99 rate and we went for a quick trip. We loved the hotel...great lazy river pool, adult pool, nice rooms. I would definately recommend it. Also, if you join the Omni select guest program you can get coffee and juice delivered to your door each morning. The program was free and even included a coupon for an upgrade, which basically was a better view.

We have a vacation home behind in the Omni in Champions Gate. We were there Fri - Tues (over Labor Day). There was no road construction going on at all. I do not know if they are through for good though. I-4 was not congested at all and it took 10 minutes or so to get to Disney property. The Champions Gate area is very nice.

There is definitely construction between Champions Gate and the Disney exits. There is usually congestion heading Eastbound at the entrace to I-4 as the bridge is where there is currently a lane drop. They are working on expanding I-4 to three lanes right at Champions Gate right now.

It took us over 40 minutes to get to Celebration this past weekend. Granted, it was at night, but it is only 4 miles.

Going to WDW should not be a problem, but it pays to know your options when the parks close and I-4 Westbound gets busy.

If you are not going to be coming to the area for a couple months, you should be OK to take I-4. But the 192 construction will still be going on. It would be best to take the first Disney exit (62) and not try to make it up to another exit.

If you are going to AKL or AK, head out of the Omni, go up through Champions Gate Boulevard and continue up the hill past the I-4 interchange. At the top of the hill, you will come to a stop light. Turn left onto Old Lake Wilson Road/CR 545. Take this through the newly build hills of Reunion. This will take you up to 192. As you get up towards 192, stay in the right hand left turning lane (got it?). Turn left onto 192 and then get into the far right lane. The next light will be Sherberth Road. Turn roght onto Sherberth. As you head down here, you will see a pasture and across that, you will see Expedition Everest looming over the treeline. At the end of this road, get in the right lane. You will come to a light. This is the Osceola Parkway. Left goes to AKL, straight goes backstage, and right takes you towards the rest of Disney property. AK is just a short distance down on the left. Since this is divided, be careful and catch the first turn-around to get to AK. Otherwise, continue down the Parkway and follow the purple signs to your destination.

This is a great "back way". I do not call it a shortcut anymore as Reunion is increasing the traffic on 545 and I-4 is going to be better once the third lane opens.

By January I-4 should be a lot better. I hope!!!

I do agree about the way the Omni sticks up out of the surrounding countryside. The funny thing is that it is not regarded as the "sore thumb" around here, but rather the "jewel".

I know that when I see the hotel looming on the horizon that I am almost home. :)
