Russell Stover is now making low carb candy - - I got a package of the low carb mint patties - OMG they taste just like Peppermint Patties!!!! Two patties had only .3g (yes POINT three) of carbs.

Yes! Russell Stover sugar free chocolate has been my new downfall. That stuff is terrific. I like it better than the full version! ;)
Plus we have a RS outlet!

An RS OUTLET!!!! WIth CHOCOLATE!!!!!!! I THINK I HAVE DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN!!!!! Can I come live with you????

Walgreens has it? WOO HOO! I have one right around the corner from me!! :bounce: :bounce:

Don't get too excited, dizneenut, you can't have anything like this until you finish induction. Sorry :(

LOL! That's OK Kath, with Walgreen's right around the corner, that will be the first thing I get AFTER Induction! :teeth:

OK, I’m confused. I looked at their website and there are sugar free candies and low carb candies. Can you have both on Atkins, or do you need to get the low carb? And do the low carb ones have any sugar? It said something about no sugar carbs, but does that mean no sugar at all?

They are sweetened with sugar alchohols. They do not spike your sugar levels like regular sugar and are okay to have in moderation in a low carb eating plan.

The Hersheys sugar free are also to die for! I've had the PB Cups and also the almond bars!
:D

Russell Stover has always been a weakness of mine! I love them. Thanks for the info, I will make sure to pick one up after this week. :)

where are you finding hershey's may I ask?!?!?!?

Just a caution (actually two of them!):

1. Sugar Free candies made with sugar alcohols are known to stall the weight loss of SOME individuals who seem to process the sugar alcohols QUITE well (which means the netting out is improper for these folks as their body DOES utilize the carb effect). It varies from individual to individual. My own experience is that I do not GAIN weight while eating these in moderation - but I do not lose weight either. If I give in to eating these I can pretty much count on being stalled out on weight loss. Just my experience.
2. For those of you LUCKY enough to have your body be substantially unable to process the sugar alcohols (thus you SHOULD exclude them from your net effective carb count) the fact that your body does not process this item... results in "GASTRIC DISTRESS" - running from mild to EXTREME in many cases. Read the packages.. they almost always have a caution about "gastric distress". This translates to "you may spend many hours in the restroom and have a very painful experience" LOL!

Having said that... I believe they have a place in a low carb program. Occassional treats when the world is swamping you with candy temptations (like Easter, Valentines, Christmas etc.) and it seems that they are something that you could have occassionally and in moderation once on maintenance as well with no harm.

Your mileage will vary with these items... but I wanted to make sure folks don't just rush into them without a bit of good information to make good choices.

DixieDreamer, thank you for the info, and what you said makes so much sense. I think too many “legal” snacks can be the downfall of any weight loss program. I pretty much believe in the saying, “if it seems too good to be true, it probably is!” But on occasion, in moderation, it’s great to have these snacks available. Unfortunately, I’m not good at moderation, so it’s difficult for me to have those things in the house without going overboard. I envy those of you who can open one of those boxes without eating the whole thing! (Of course, I guess if I react to sugar alcohols like some people do, I wouldn’t try that a second time!!)
