OMG! This rain!?!?!?!?!?

Careful hentob, I had someone tell me in my thread I started the other day about this never ending rain. That she :rotfl2: whenever she hears people complain about a little rain.

I just read your post, Pooh67_68. I hope nobody is :rotfl2: right now, as our Northeastern PA neighbors are being evacuated by the thousands. For those DIS Folk that are in Luzerne County right now (specifically the Wyoming Valley) many thoughts are with you :grouphug:

Keep your fingers crossed for those around the Delaware and Susquehanna Rivers :sad2:

Hopefully it isn't 1972 all over again.

If anyone wants to laugh at our "little bit of rain", please go to WNEP.com or http://www.cnn.com/2006/WEATHER/06/28/east.flood/index.html

We've had almost 30'' of rain in our town in the last 6 or 7 weeks, including rain so hard I couldn't see while driving today. This rain is completely out of control, and there's still more coming. My thoughts and prayers are with all those in the flooded area. We were watching the news tonight and it all looks so familiar. So similar to scenes from 6 weeks ago here in NH and MA. I want so badly to see the sun for more than just a day or two, and not wake up each morning wondering if the sump pump has given out, flooding the basement, or if I can actually down my road, because more seems to wash away each day. I know these are trivial concerns compared to those that live so close to rivers, or even the lake in my town that overflowed 6 weeks ago, but they're still concerns.

Will it ever end :sad2:
I said those very words to myself last evening except I think I added a !#$@*&%$*

PS: Hope you guys in the "dry" states get some rain soon.

Hentob, I should have added that the worst of it was 6 weeks ago. Things have slowed down to an inch or two of rain every few days, as opposed to an inch or two of rain an hour. We're fortunate to live on the side of a "mountain" so the only flooding that can affect us is a flooded basement (and of course flooded ditches that wash out our road  ). I'm just so unbelievably sick of rain, of puddles, of washed out roads, and of worrying about the people in my town that aren't so lucky. The people that if the lake rises and the river floods to the point where the lake can't be drained, would lose their houses from the rising lake. The people who's houses will be destroyed if the dam upstream from the center of town breaches. And wondering what will happen to the historic buildings in the center of town, and the school in town, if the worst were ever to happen. The town's not flooded now, and hasn't been for about three weeks, but the rain needs to end
And to those of you who need rain, if I could figure out how to send the rain to you I would.

 Any one interested in building an ark?I can't stand it anymore- the kids want to go out and play and can't ...what a way to start summer vacation!

I know you all are getting it bad there now...kind of like the north east got just a bit back. I always know when its going to rain here....my days off of work. Honestly I havent had a dry one is over two weeks. Of course I go back to work on Saturday and its supposed to be BEAUTIFUL.

Stay dry everyone.

My husband's boss and his family live on the Delaware, so they had to move out what they could. Every time we get a lot of rain, they loose everything.

My one cousin lives in Ashley (that's near Wilkes Barre) her family didn't have to evacuate, but her DH is on mandatory over time. (he's a cop)

East Stroudsburg (Monroe County) part of the levey broke and flooded a trailer park and may over flow more and flood the WalMart. If any of you in the Pa. NJ. NY. area have been here for a long time than you heard of the 55 flood that Stroudsburg had, well that is the levey that partly gave way today.

Hentob, how is your town now?

Our town will be fine. The Schuylkill did not "break loose", thank goodness. All the evacuees on the lower streets have returned home, although many hoses are hanging out of basements right now. So, yes, some people have water damage. But that is nothing compared to what the people north of us will be against tonight. I can't stop thinking about them :guilty:

I had heard this morning that they were afraid the dam was going to break in Tuscarora, and they were considering releasing some of the water. Glad to hear everything is okay.

I cannot imagine what the people in Wilkes Barre are going thru right now. :sad2: I hope everyone stays safe.

Holy Crap! They just showed a house in Maryland on the news totally surrounded by water. There are people in it, including 2 children, waiting to be rescued.
I can't watch it. Multiply that by about 50,000 houses and you have New Orleans. Drive down streets in New Orleans today and you see several waterlines - and that's on the houses that weren't totally submerged. Probably less than 20% have been gutted or had anything done to them. It is so depressing. I can't stand that others are having to go through this.

Actually, they did release some water from Tuscarora.

It alleviated most of the fear that the it would spill over uncontrollably due to a break. They allowed people to return to their homes after that.

Heard on the news today that so far 11 people have died.
Of course even though there was mandatory evacuation, some fools refuse to leave. Can't they have them arrested?

Weather Channel is calling for 60% chance more rain tonight. :sad2:

It downpoured again last night. :sad2: I didn't have time to watch the news before work this morning. Any news on Luzerne County?

Not unless they have a law about it. The town next to mine when our area flooded last month passed an emergency ordinance that people would be arrested if they refused to evacuate. People cooperate when it's shelter or slammer

Haven't heard, I am keeping the news off today. We got lucky, it didn't rain last night.

monarch, well than I think they need to make that ordinance everywhere. But I guess they figure everyone has a right to be stupid.

Deja view all over again (thanks Yogi) - just like in New Orleans.
