One of the presents DH got from the DILs for Christmas was a Barry Manilow boxed CD set that included a DVD with old concert and TV special footage.

I got to watch part of the DVD this morning and OMG..I wish I had a time machine. Those flashing eyes. Those rosy cheeks. Those pouting lips.

Yup, I am a diehard hardcore Fanilow and it's all DH's fault! Most of the stuff I listen to is old school classic hard rock from the 60s and 70s, as well as some poppy hair metal stuff from the 80s. Growing up, I knew who Barry Manilow was, but I didn't really like him. I thought he was kind of stupid and his music was pathetic.

Then I met DH, who has always been a fan. He would play his Barry CDs in the car whenever he picked me up to go out and I would get really annoyed. Which would only serve to make him turn it up louder.

Eventually, the music grew on me. I fell in love with his songs, how rich and deep they are. I was like "Man I know EXACTLY what this guy was feeling when he wrote that." After we saw him in concert for the first time (Ultimate Manilow Tour, July 2002), I fell in love with Barry as a sex symbol..er..I mean showman.

We've seen him twice in concert (Ultimate Manilow tour 2002 and One More Night One Last Time tour in 2004) and every time it just gets better. Every CD gets better. DH bought the Ultimate Manilow tour DVD and it's one of DS's favorites now.

Where's CookieGVB? She'll back me up on how sexy this guy is! I know for a fact she'd go to the Copa with Barry if he asked her to.

She'll probably kick me for announcing this. And in all fairness, I should mention I saw him there two weeks ago.
