bob, you need the shield pack first, it is located in the center sector, you have to get it from the bottom center sector though. When you are in the bottom center, go up and hit the point ball on the right but be very careful. Just tap the up arrow very slightly until you are close to the top of the screen, it will change to a new screen and you will get the point ball AND the shield pack.

once you have that, then when you land on the pads near the spiky things, you just hit the 4 key and it will shield you and you can walk right over the spikey things.

also, there is a spikey thing in the TOP RIGHT CORNER of the top right sector, but dont ever go up there. You can beat the game easily without ever having to go up to the top there on the top right. You have to go into the top right sector, but there is no need to go up into the top right corner once you are IN that sector.
