just got disney brochure through the post. looking at POR. the 'value' weeks this year are priced at £84, this goes up to £118 next year - thats an incease of 40% possibly because there are a lot more 'free dining' dates next yr. suddenly free dining doesn't seem so 'free' anymore....

We were looking at next Feb or May and were really shocked at how much the prices have increased, they maybe advertising it as free dining but somehow it doesn't feel free anymore.

It may be that they are bringing UK free dining in line with the structure of the US offers. In the US, to get free dining you have to forfeit any other kind of room discount and take the room at full price. In the UK to date it has always worked that free dining is an offer and you can take it or leave it, but there is no compensation or discount if you choose to opt out of the free dining for any reason. Hence the attitude (in the US at least) that free dining is never free as it often works out a better deal, particularly at the more costly resorts, to actually take the discounted room rate and add on the DDP and pay for it.

Depends on time of year, you can also get discounts on rooms and free DDP booking in US but tends to be nearer the time of travel rather than over a year in advance like when booking on Disney.co.uk. I am just waiting to be sure whats included in DDP 2011, now leaning towards going back offsite again, if they remove the desserts I think that will make up our minds.

I priced our 2010 onsite trip in the Virgin brochure for same dates 2011 - £1600 dearer for the 3 of us.

Ok not a fare comparison as we always DIY book, not use Virgin but made me feel a bit better about the amount we've got to pay off shortly for this year!

Like wayne said(yes Im back thanks to wayne sorting my settings out) if the dessert does go it will be better paying oop for the food. Our aveage meal will be between 65 and 85 with tip for 2 adults and a child. If onlg getting a main and 2 snacks I dont see the point.As we will be going next year in summer hols it will fal in free ddp time and if we do decide to stay onsite through disney then we will have it and pay oop for the starter as prefer starter to puddings.The best thing IMOP is to book as many buffets as possible .That way you get starter main and pudding. If staying DVC will just pay for food and not book DDP. Will hv car next time though so can eat off site if needs be.

Or booking on the US site when they have good promotions. I just got a pin code today for 40% off any resort (value, mod or deluxe) for selected dates for the rest of this year. As a single mum and the way UK structures packages, it would be cheaper for me to book with them, stay at our choice of resort and buy our food OOP. We aren't big eaters so really, it makes little sense to book through the UK when they have free dining just for the food, when we leave a fair amount unused despite feeling over-fed most of the time ....!

I heard on the Inside The Magic podcast last week that now the economy is starting to pick up again Disney have returned their prices to 'normal' levels.

given what the stock markets have been doing around the world for the past few days, we'll see if the economy is really on the mend...

i heard some economists yesterday predicting a double dip recession..
meaning that things will turn down again..

in other words, disney may be counting their chickens a bit too soon..

Just can't see any end to the recession myself, so many of my customers have either lost their jobs or on short time, I am on lowest income for 21 years since going self employed, almost everyone I talk to is in the same boat.
Maybe the US economy will come out faster than us, I don't know but I think this is going to take years to recover from before we are all spending like we were.

Possible - but why give great offers to another company to market instead of Disney giving those offers themselves? I think the fact that a new offer has come out for 40% off in the US for ALL resorts right to the week before Christmas this year, not just for SSR and OKW, is a suggestion that the offers are still out there. However these seem to be pin code offers, not general public ones and perhaps this is how they intend curbing the discounts. Pins are non-transferrable so it is on an "invitation only" basis.

I have just priced up the exact same holiday with Virgin Holidays as we have booked for this year and its about £1000 more for 2011 . No wonder so many people now make their own arrangements - which is what we'll be doing I think!

We just got back on Tuesday and I just checked out flights for April next year (although we'd be planning to go in May again) and currently the flights I did this year are £607 at April prices. Not good when we paid £347 this year!

I'll be keeping an eye on it, anyway.
