OMG family does not want to get any Fastpass tickets the first day

Sorry, I agree with your group, lol! I think its a GREAT idea to just focus on the baby friendly rides and parades and shows while you have the baby. I do think its sorta stressful and a pain to split the group up to go on adult rides when you've got little ones (we've had to do it our last two trips with our little ones) and I prefer NOT to if we can. Our first trip DH and I only rode two adult rides, and we each had to ride alone, while one stayed with the kids. So in the meantime, the kids had to be entertained for an hour! It was NOT ideal, but we just *had* to go on Indiana Jones and Space Mountain at least ONCE while we were there, lol. You will actually be LOSING time if you are having to spend twice as long at each ride, waiting for both groups to get on. Even with FP you sometimes end up waiting 30 min+ to get on, so it would be an hour for each ride (which is basically like not using FPs at all!). It would be way better to just wait until you can all go on together and really take advantage of the FP system.

I think you're going to have to compromise on this one...take it slow the first day and let the others acclimate, then you can command control on the next two days! :thumbsup2

Also, keep in mind, most "normal" people get FREAKED OUT by itineraries and schedules when they are on vacation. I am the planning NUTJOB in my family, and I tend to just keep the schedule to myself because like the PP said, *I* know that its impossible to do everything on the list, and *I* know which things can be bumped and switched around, and *I* know that fastpasses are actually easier, etc. But to someone else it looks CRAZYTOWN and completely stressful. :rotfl:

But it always works out great while we are there. I just say "okay, first we're going to PP!" and then give the next direction after that, etc. That way its all very easy to swallow, just one thing at a time, lol. They hardly even know we're following a schedule! And when you go to get FP, wait until you are in Adventureland and then say "Okay, you guys head on over to Jungle Cruise, I'm going to grab FP for Indiana Jones and I'll meet you there". It simplifies things for the non-disney-planning-freaks. :thumbsup2

Hound 109 has a great idea. I was going to say something similar, just not so much detail. ;)

If some of your party starts lagging and wants to take a break, that will be the perfect time to use your FP. The less they want to use, the more for you. :thumbsup2

Now if you can manage to use the baby to get a child switch pass to fully utlitize your FP, more the better!;)

Have fun and relax. It'll be fine. Your group may want to do different things. So let them. Just agree to meet up somewhere or be in contact by cell phone. Going with a baby is a different experience than going without kids.

My first trips to WDW were kid-less. We took my DD11 for the first time when she was 2-3/4. It was a totally different experience for us. No early mornings for us but staying later was fine (3 hour time difference between FL and CA). Also we didn't "plan" her naptimes at all. She would fall asleep in the stroller when tired. There was one morning when we were at AK pretty early (later in our trip) and we were ridding Safari. When I looked over to my DD sitting on my DNieces20 lap she was falling asleep sitting up. After the ride we put her in the stroller, my DM waiting for us in Pizzafari, and DNiece20 and I went and got FP for Dinosaur and rode it as well. Playing it by ear with an almost 3 y/o worked best for us.

I'm with Hound!
In fact I intend to employ the same strategy in Sept with our very large, diverse and opinionated group of 15 (3 family goups & 3 grandparents)
I *stealthily* took the reins on accomodation - and booked BWPPI to ensure my covert ops will succeed. teehee!

I intend to organize all meals, eventing entertainment & meeting spots - and present them itinerary style - like a Conference.
Show for the organzied events or risk missing out

Good Luck OP - I know how much you want it to work out. Itwill!!

I guess I'm in the minority here but I agree with just spending the first day together. It would make me more than happy to put my plan aside and ride a few rides with everyone vs. more rides with a split up group. The baby can actually ride a LOT of the rides there so why not just do those the first day. It is a vacation, time to relax and enjoy your family:goodvibes

Actually I think you are the majority as most everyone has essentially agreed with this.

Most have suggested to be ready to do some things separately if they main group leaves. :)

Thanks for all the input reworking plans now . They did say they don't mind going commando they just want all of us on the rides together. So I'm re working things.

I remember when you posted your itinerary.....it was down to the minute. YOU knew that it was flexible & impossible to follow but THEY didn't. It probably scared them to see a "Commando" plan.

Since they've veto'd your initial "plan", You'll need to either wander aimlessly with them (aka going with the flow ;))..... or do what i would do.....go double secret STEALTH commando on them. :thumbsup2

DH and I almost peed ourselves reading this response :rotfl2:

OP- I would agree, adapt some sort of Stealth strategy and pick up a few FP's- they might be pleasantly surprised :cool1:

I think you will be okay. The rides are a lot of fun when you have your entire family on them.

Snow White's Scary Adventures
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
Alice in Wonderland
Mickey's House
Minnie's House
Small World
Pinocchio's Daring Journey

Ride Max has us being done with this by 11:10am walking at a slow speed.

11:30am we will grab lunch and catch the Jedi Show then after lunch head out to DCA.

DCA 12:30pm
Monsters, Inc.
Muppet Vision 3-D
It's Tough to Be a Bug!
Jumpin' Jellyfish
Mickey's Fun Wheel

Ridemax has us being done by 4:00

We then would like to do dinner at ESPN Zone and be back at disneyland to see Soundsational parade at 6:35 what time should I make reservations for dinner ?

In case people are wondering why no big rides refer to this thread
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2726717

Then we plan on either Fireworks or World of color

What day of the week is this?

I assume it's not a T day or S day.....& that Gen Adm. opening is at 8am?

(to all....will the ticket booths be open at 7am for Navy Dad?)

- place the flock in line at the turnstile....THEN go buy the tickets & rejoin them. (are you getting military tickets?)

Morning looks like this:

- Is this the order that Ridemax gives for fantasyland (at 8am)??

Peter Pan's Flight
Snow White's Scary Adventures
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
Alice in Wonderland
Mickey's House
Minnie's House
Small World
Pinocchio's Daring Journey

Ride Max has us being done with this by 11:10am walking at a slow speed.

Except for Mickey's & Minnie's homes in Toontown, the FL rides are ALL within a few steps of each other...slow or fast makes little difference.

Why no Carousel, Casey Jr., Storybookland, Dumbo or Teacups?

11:30am we will grab lunch and catch the Jedi Show then after lunch head out to DCA.

I like this "lunch & a show" idea. :thumbsup2

DCA 12:30pm
Monsters, Inc.
Muppet Vision 3-D
It's Tough to Be a Bug!

I love this show...but it might scare a toddler...anybody else have a comment?.....& why no rides in the adorable Bugland area?

Jumpin' Jellyfish Not sure this is toddler friendly.
Mickey's Fun Wheel

Ridemax has us being done by 4:00

:)

I did the group commando thing at WDW a few years back with my sister as drill Sargent. There were 9 in our group. By day 3 we had 2 wounded soldiers, and 3 more that were about to go AWOL. No one had any fun and everyone was miserable. The plans were thrown out the window for the remainder of the trip and we all just kicked back and enjoyed the atmosphere of the parks, riding what we could when we could. Yes, we missed some rides, yes we didn't get to ride our favorites 2-3 times, but we didn't kill each other and had a blast.
Make the first timers first experience magical so they will want to return! Plans are great, but when so rigid, you miss out on a lot. Building memories together is a lot of fun!

Mickey & Minnie's houses are both in Toontown, which is still quite a walk from Fantasyland, so you should move those to the end of the morning schedule. Move Pinocchio up with the rest of the Fantasyland rides. You could catch Small World on the way over to Toontown, or on the way back (I would try to get to Toontown sooner rather than later after it opens if you want to avoid a long line to see Mickey though) Also UM Storybook Canals?! Come one now...that ride is the BEST! :cloud9: You *have* to add that to the Fantasyland list!!! And why not the other FL rides, too?? I think you can get them all done in 3 hours. They are literally like, 10 steps away from each other!

And at DCA you *have* to do the rides in Its a Bugs Land! At Least ChewChew Trains, its so cute! And yes, Jumpin' Jellyfish has height restrictions, no babies! So you can cut that out. Depending how old the baby is, yes, the 3-D movies might scare her! Both of them have intense moments. If she's old enough to actually watch the movie, keep that in mind. If she'll just sleep, don't worry about it! You could also go through the Animation Station after Monsters Inc. I've heard its pretty cool! Also, the Tortilla Bakery Tour (free tortillas!), and the Aladdin show is supposed to be amazing!

I've never been one to leave the parks to go eat, so I have no idea what time you should do dinner. Are you sure its really worth it?? It just always seems like so much walking to me!! I'd probably get dinner in DCA and then go back over to DL for the parade. I think you might be rushing it otherwise, and that'll be no fun!

I know HD's got other ideas, but I'd REALLY think twice about trying to get FPs the first day. Your group already made themselves clear that they do not want to go on any rides like that while the baby is there. I think you might risk upsetting them, and then they'll be less likely to follow your lead the next two days.

After the parade you can try to do Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Buzz Lightyear, Capt Eo, Disney Railroad (very fun to ride all the way at least once, and also good for transportation from far away lands! Maybe try to catch it after lunch to take you up to the front gates!) Tikiroom, Finding Nemo Submarines, Mr Lincoln, Innoventions, Winnie the pooh (though probably not worth the walk back there since you cant do anything else!), Sailing Ship Columbia (very fun!) and/or Mark Twain's Riverboat.

:thumbsup2 I totally agree with this as I was the drill sergent one year. No one had fun, the kids were grumpy and DH was disgruntled. I thought I was doing everyone a favor by planning (to the minute) all the rides, shows and when meals were going to eaten. Boy was I wrong. Now, I go with the flow. I plan for one major thing a day (show, eatery) and that's IT. I promised my DH and now he's a MUCH happier hubby

This coming June there will be 12 of us and I am less stressed because I am giving up control!!! We are doing two major things (rides, shows, eateries) together each day and the rest we letting the smaller groups go their seperate ways. I know (from experience ;)) that you can NOT please everyone ALL the time and I refuse to keep trying.

NavyDad01, my magical wish for you is to have a wonderful time making magical memories with your family. As a military family ourselves, we know how precious it is to spend time with family. Enjoy!!!!

The order I have listed is what Ridemax suggest as far as touring Fantasy land. I will try to add in those rides you mentioned and change speed to normal.

Also It would be a Thursday and I know Ridemax is aware of that since it tells me at the bottom. I cant have family wait for me in line because they need to be with me when I buy the tickets according to the CM. I'm also assuming ticket stand will be open as of 6:30 since MM starts at 7am . I will take your advice on its tough to be a bug and watch some online videos.

The best thing I think going for my group is since were staying at my moms in Fontana there will be days between out visits. We were at first deciding to go all out Seaworld, Six Flags, Zoo , Universal and 3 days Disney on our 10 day stay but decided to just do Disney and a day at the beach the rest of the time will be at home relaxing and maybe some camping.

I'm starting to think that it is a bad idea too since it looks like we cant make reservations at the Espn zone wait can be almost 40min long. I just would like a good sit down place and all the restaurants in the parks look kind of expensive. I was looking at the one in the POTC ride.

That restaurant, Blue Bayou, is the most expen$ive in Disneyland. You can get a much better deal elsewhere.

We like to eat in the late afternoon before the dinner prices take effect.

Yea! I love to hear these laid-back ideas. When somebuddy starts asking WDW vets on the DIS which attraction to do first -- at a water park!!! -- that's just not my idear of a relaxing vacation!
