I would choose Garden Grove over Santa Ana anyday. I think Garden Grove is quite a nice place. Not the best, but not the worst.

Irvine is WAY too far if you are using public transportation imo. And is a very pricey city.

Fullerton is okay, Orange is good.

Every city will have good and bad parts. Considering you would need public transportation if you moved I would choose between Orange, Fullerton, Garden Grove or Anaheim.

oh I totally forgot about having to use public transportation oops sorry

Hey now, I was born and raised in Orange County until I was 12 and the public education system didn't do me any harm. Of course, from 2nd to 6th grade my mom drove me across town to a nicer public elementary school than the neighborhood one...

As for the car thing, get one when you can afford it, but until then, try to find a place near the grocery store and invest in a kid's wagon or find a place near a bus stop.

And, as So Cal residents, you'll qualify for the discounted AP rates. :dance3:

I didnt mean area specific...I meant CA in general...and the school systems suck thanks to our govna taking all the schools funding and using for god knows what...but thats a whole different story and I dont want to go there:sad2:

Hey, Jade...if you move you could always rent out a room to all us out-of-town-DISer's and make great money lol!

For real...I'm really hoping this works out for you, not so much for DL but for the opportunity for change. I'm a firm believer that change is good.

As far as daily life w/o a car is concerned, I'd look into delivery whenever possible. I have a friend who can't drive due to seizures and she orders a lot of stuff from Amazon...we're talking food too! She also watches a friend's daughter in exchange for running errands and/or driving her places. Life w/o a car is possible. You just have to be creative.

ya my dh was asking can we do vons and albersons like we would when on vacation for eekly groches. i said yes from what i read here.
And i order alot things online i dont go clotheing shoping and christmas shopping in less its at walmart all other stuff is on line disney store and amazon

Yup, you can do delivery. I love Amazon and Schwans is good too. They are a bit more $$ though. :) I hope it works for you guys, I would love for you to be able to be that close!!

Oh and I know of a company similar to Schwann's that delivers too. They're steaks make Outback taste like McDonalds!

They're called Celebrity Foods (maybe Celebrity Prime in SoCal and other parts of the country). They come out to your house and explain all your options...poultry, beef, fish, shellfish, veggies, soups, pre-made foods, desserts, dry goods, some staples, etc. I admit they're a little pricy, but well worth it! Most of their food is not organic but it is hormone free, antibiotic free, animals are concsciensiously raised, etc. More expensive than Von's, but less than Whole Foods. We have an upright deep freezer, so they only deliver to us twice a year. I don't know about other delivery options. We have a monthly payment plan but there are different ways to pay.

I only have 3 complaints (if you can call them that):
1. They don't give you a price list for you to take to the grocery store for comparison shopping...ven after you're a regular customer. But they will tell you how much something is. You just have to write it down yourself.
2. The business office is run very much like a mom-and-pop-shop, but not in a good way. We've been customers for 2.5 yrs and always done auto-pay. But every time we have a new order we have to call and remind them to charge us, otherwise they start calling us saying we're behind on our payments.
3. They come out to your house every time you want to re-order because they're trying to sell you other things like knives, freezers, pots/pans, etc. We bought a freezer when our old one died and have the knives. Love both but probably paid too much. They do give us a discount on our food orders since we bought other things.

We put up with it all b/c the food is so outstanding...and if we don't like something they give us full credit on our next order! I got some of their gnocchi (I think). When the guy came out to take our next order he asked me how I liked it. I said it was ok but not good enough to re-order. So he gave me a credit! He said anything that wasn't worth re-oderinging meant it wasn't good enough to sell!

Here's their website: http://celebrityfoods.com/ I think I get some free steaks if you say I referred you :lovestruc

I'm sure you have done your research. That's just the common sense thing to do. I wouldn't pay anyone any mind- they're just jealous lol! I know I am. We lived in Scottsdale for several years, until I had my second kid. That was about 4 yrs ago. I miss some things about it, but not a lot. I remember thinking it was a great place for someone whose single (or married w/out kids.) The weather is just too intense for someone w/ small children. The crime rate was low, and the City was clean. There were so many positives.

I just did the calculator for Scottsdale- man did their prices go up!! They were always on the pricier side, but I see they've gone up even more since we lived there. I have friends who still reside there, and have heard the stories. My good friend purchased a condo in N. Scottsdale that was in the high $300ks. It wasn't brand-new, and it was not big in size.

Actually, there are parts of Santa Ana (on the Tustin border) that have very nice homes and communities so don't totally discount it--basically anything that is East of Tustin Ave. is ok. West--no

...

...

You don't have a driver's license?!

...

Wow. I'm dumbfounded.

I didn't know there were legal American citizens without driver's licenses still around...That would explain a lot...

What is this even meant to imply? I just wanted to chime in and say that I have never had a car or needed a car and I'm still alive! Not only is it doable, but it's great knowing that I have extra money each month that my car-owning friends don't:).

I would suggest checking to see if the bus system has a trip planner. It was really useful for us to enter in the address of potential new houses and see just how often different buses would pass by and where we could easily get to (or not get to). We also use Zipcar/Flexcar for those odd times when a car is necessary.

I think that people are spot on about grocery delivery. We generally use AmazonFresh or Safeway (same as Vons?). Groceries are a tad more expensive this way, but you can usually get free delivery and there is nothing sweeter than knowing that you don't have to lug a 12-pack of diet coke home!

Good luck!

I found via OCTA's website, a trip planner for her, that just looks so useful, I am going to check it out further myself, for getting around in Anaheim.

ty ty you all Those stakes sound good. We will forsure keep all this info and just hoping it all works out.

I have seen prices here go from 100k for houses with ladn to 400k in the last few years. (shoped around with my parents)
I know its gone up everywhere I know that it will be excpinve weather we moved there or utha or heck even stayed here and moved to own place.

I feel ya. I graduated from Cal State Northridge this past spring and the amount of money that the government pays the administrative staff must be incredibly low, because while the teaching is good (imo), the administrative portion sucked. Thank goodness I had enough smarts to keep myself from falling through the cracks, but not everyone was as lucky as me (I got my diploma after only 4 years of college).

Sorry for going OT.

I truly hope it all works out as you want it to. If for some reason you choose to stay here, just wanted you to know that homes in and around Phoenix have gone down quite a bit in the last year. What was $200,000 is now $150,000. There are a LOT of forclosures around at VERY GOOD prices. The current Phoenix market could really work in your favor.

I wish you only the very best and hope you have a fresh start in the place of your choosing. :goodvibes

ty ty ya if this job dosnet go though i hope something else around here will.

So when do ya find out for sure??? We are all on pins and needles!

In the mean time..... pixiedust: Pixie Dust for you!
