OMG-big oppertunity maybe-excited-

congrats!!

i've been trying to convince my husband for years to move to CA (so i can be closer to dl). i actually get emails everyday for simi valley realty for sale. alas, he won't budge. says he's not the cali type. :sad1:

Ah........ but you live in paradise, :) I think that must be sweet! :) I would love to live a part of the year in Hawaii! go to a luau, sight see, visit the U.S.S. Arizona, maybe find a real boyfriend! ;)
Perhaps you can convince your husband to live part-time in Ca.?
or you can just come on over, with out him, make him miss you, then he will have to give in, and join you. :)

Oh forgot to add, what is wumbo? please, I hope that question will not make me sound like some stupid howlie! he he ;)

Anaheim has good public transit but not every city does. Housing will be high and schools won't be as good as they are in AZ. Just be careful and really consider everything before moving. Not trying to be a downer because I would LOVE to live next to DL but just be careful. We considered a move there but decided against it because even from Nor Cal to So Cal the cost of living is so much different. It's much cheaper in Nor Cal...for just about everything.

If he gets it and the money is good then go for it and enjoy being so close to the Mouse!! I'll be jealous! lol

That's saying something too, because we moved from Northern CA because it was so darn expensive. We grew up there, and I miss it, but I don't miss the costs! :scared1: I'd love to live by DL though, DH's Grandma lives in Cypress. That seems be a really nice area, and she's just minutes from DL as well. Betting it's pretty expensive to live there though.

Hope everything goes well Jade! Also if your still considering homeschooling, the laws in CA are a bit up in the air right now. With a court basically saying it was illegal. It's looking good that it gets overturned though. I know AZ has some pretty relaxed HS laws!

thanks gisele.

i got the quote from patrick star (spongebob's friend). the dvd player in the van is constantly spongebob and it's from my one of favorite episodes!

i'm not sure what wumbo means, it's a function on mermaid man's shrinker gun.

and speaking of living in paradise, my property taxes went up again!! arrrggghh!!!!

You are most welcome! :)

That is a funny word, wumbo, it sounds like a dance style, thank you for filling me in.
Those pesty property taxes! they should not exist for home owners in paradise, some one needs to make that a law, o.k. maybe a bit of a property tax, but the government should show some mercy!

Ok so my dh has been trying to get a job for about 4 months. alot of things have happened with this company. Lady got layed over in chicago or something and then other things having to do with ppl falling and braking legs and this and that. This whole time ive been wondering is this worth it.

Then we found out maybe he could get a sells job with the same place. (going to cali some times and stuff)
Well after about 5 different meetings or calls back and forht in the last two weeks.

My DH just comes home an tells me.
"well hunny if things work out, IF"
"we just might be moving to anihime Ca By Disneyland"
"My face just drooped. I mean im typing and shaking (ok im excited id love this, and I know well this is not gona be an over night thing and that i shouldnt count my chickens before they hatch but but I mean wow)

The best part of it all is he would be making good buck not like min wage. I just am like. wow
I pray I hope I wish for this to work out.:goodvibes :woohoo: :wizard:  :worship: :cheer2: pixiedust:

:offtopic: -what kind of houseing places are around lol

Some thoughts:

1. If I'm not mistaken, I think you guys live with your fiance's parents, right? And I'm guessing you maybe don't pay rent/help much with expenses? If that's the case, I think it would be hard to move to a high-cost area, just because you maybe don't have a realistic idea of what it really costs to live on your own. I know when I first moved out of my parents house, I had a rude awakening when I realized how much it costs to be on my own. It's hard to know how to budget if you haven't ever lived on your own, KWIM?

2. No car would make if very difficult. If it were me, I would buy a car first before I moved out. Especially if you're going to be homeschooling, I think a car would be essential. You'll want to take the kid to the library, to musuems, out to see nature, etc. Having a car would make it so much easier!

Good luck to you whatever happens!

When we first moved to OC from Northern California we were quite shocked. We lived with my in laws and never paid rent. Lol, so it was hard going back to the real world. Especially since our rent is $1800 a month. We have had to give up many luxuries to be able to afford to live here. It's sad, but we're only here for the wife's law school, then who knows what we'll be doing.

I think Jade mentioned they didn't have a license so they couldn't get a car. If you live in a central location, it shouldn't be too tough with public transportation, but the central locations are usually pricier.

Jade it is expensive to live in California…to help you figure out the cost use a list like this:

Monthly…Payments Expenses:

Rent
Medical, dental
Utilities (gas and/or electric, water)
Cable (or dish)
Telephone
Internet Service
Transportation (to work, shopping, library)
Renters’ Insurance
Groceries
Clothing and laundry
Education Expenses (even if home schooled, pencils, books etc.)
Entertainment (movies, eating out)

Once you have gotten an idea on your living cost; you and your family can better make the decision
on your move…also Jade…will your DH new job have a probationary period before the job becomes
permanent? Some companies can have a 3 to 6 month probationary period…within that time frame the
company can decide if your DH stays on job or is let go…these are just things to think about...

Jade, I wish you luck and happiness in whatever you decide…jc:flower3:

...

You don't have a driver's license?!

...

Wow. I'm dumbfounded.

I didn't know there were legal American citizens without driver's licenses still around...That would explain a lot...

*flees*

Everyone else on here is right. For one of my classes we had to simulate living with our future family. I, of course, chose to live in area around DL. Even with a double income making upwards of 65,000, my imaginary family of five was practically bankrupt by the end of the simulation. Rent, bills, taxes, groceries, and ALL expenses just blew me away.

Even my sister and her husband who just got a new apartment, here in UTAH, not even close to the prices of CA, are having a hard time keeping up with all the expensives they have to pay for. And they BOTH have professional jobs!

If the magical land of Disney extended beyond Harbor Blvd, I'd move there in a flash. But it just doesn't. Chances are if you move there you'll need to find a job to keep up with expenses, and you won't have time to travel willy-nilly to Disneyland.

Besides, I find living away from the area--even 2 whole states away--makes every trip even sweeter. If I could just go any time I wanted I think it would lose a lot of its specialness to me.

Nah, I'll just wait till I'm good and retired. Then me and my hubby will find a nice condo in OC and become APs. ;)

Wavy, I understand you are kind of new here, but before you start making assumptions about who Jade is I would try to get to know her. Many of us have done just that and that is why you won't find others making nonsensical judgments like you just did.

Jade, I'm hoping you will understand that most of us are posting our concerns not to discourage you, but to show we care and wouldn't want your family placed in a difficult position. :flower3:

I do danger mouse i wasnt mad yesterday i was well..lets say real friends were putting me down to and i was like come on i know i know

Here is a fun calculator to see different Costs of Living

http://www.bestplaces.net/col/

Phoenix, Arizona - Anaheim, California
Change cities
Anaheim is
32% more expensive than Phoenix.

Housing is the biggest factor in the cost of living difference.

Housing is 73% more expensive in Anaheim.

A salary of $50,000 in Phoenix, Arizona should increase to $65,824 in Anaheim, California

I did my city and it would actually cost 36% less to live in Anaheim than where I do now!!!! Why don't I live near Disneyland? I will definitely be asking my dh when he gets home!

What a cool calculator! To live in Garden Grove near Disneyland would be 1% cheaper than my city in Sonoma Co. Of course, it wouldn't be cheaper because the many trips to DL I would make are not factored in. :rotfl:

My husband has been wanting to get out of Calif. but I'm making him wait until the boys are done with school. I'm going to have to play around with that site some more!

ty for that thats about what we have planed lol if all works out..and I hate AZ for many reasons Ive thought about moving to cali or utha lol but if he gets this job we already know how much we will need to make it all aand still be able to have fun.

and I wont have to work I cant. he has to make enough me and him were just going over the prices of stuff yes we know how much we will need

One thing I've come to believe about people on this board, is they are planners and researchers. :thumbsup2 Why else would we be here?

Don't forget your DL budget! :) In fact, who needs tv with DL right next door! I'd love to hear what the final outcome for you is. Good luck! :)

lol well we are planing 200 for our tv phon and internet and we would have ap's lol and my dh just said "movies entertainment eatting out" and said "thated be downtown disney lol )

any ways yes we are includeing a dl budget in the lists were makign with each other

@_@ Anaheim is 45% more expensive to live in than Murray, Utah. Housing is 120% more expensive.

HOLY COW! And Murray is one of the nicest cities in the Salt Lake area. I'd hate to see how much more expensive Anaheim is than, say, West Valley City...Utahans know what I'm talking about. ;)
