Olympus Stylus 1010

My camera search continues and time is running out....I had narrowed my choice down to the Nikon Coolpix S550 or the Canon Powershot SD1100. Then I went to a camera store today and the salesman highly recommended the Olympus Stylus 1010. It has a 7x zoom which I find very appealing, but I have no experience with Olympus. Does anyone own this camera and if so, can you give me some feedback? Feedback on any of these cameras would be greatly appreciated because I'm driving myself insane over this and I need to order it so I can play with it before I leave in 18 days!!!!

When it comes to p&s cameras, it's mostly Canon lovers on here.

Sorry I can't be of much help. I've considered buying the 1030SW for underwater use (much less bulky than my Canon with u/w housing) but I hate the fact that it doesn't take SD cards which is what my other cameras take.

For me personally I'd rather have more zoom and Image Stabilization and I prefer a camera that takes AA batteries (I use rechargeables and lithiums) so it's really about what features are most important to you. There are a lot of Canon S5 users on here (I have an S3) but it's bulkier than the cameras you're looking at.

My confusion comes from the fact that I have a Canon S3 IS...it's 4 months passed the one year warranty and won't power on. I took it to the camera store and they are sending it out to see what the problem is but they think fixing will be a minimum of $100...given that, I'm a little reluctant to purchase another Canon. I just want a small camera I can throw in my bag and take anywhere... I loved my S3 but don't want to lug it around WDW all day....I hope to repair my S3 and still have it for my more "serious" picture taking, but need something easier to take with me.

We just got the Stylus 1020, which is basically the same camera. I have the Sony H5, which is like the Canon S3, but DH wanted something to slip in his pocket. I had just about decided on a Canon (can't think of the model # right now), but went to the camera store and he showed me the 1020.

I like the fact that it has the 7X zoom and the reviews that I read on it were good. I had to buy an xd card but I would've had to buy more sd cards if I had bought the Canon because the largest sd I have is 512 mb.

We'll be in the Smokies next week so I plan on putting it to good use and comparing the H5 to the 1020 in similar situations.
