Your thoughts...

Student use for yearbook and journalism.

Thanks

I have the 2 lens kit. It's a great camera, the kit lens' are the best kit lens' sold. The only thing to be arwae of is when you use higi ios you will get nosie, but that can be easily removed.

I ordered it for myself last night. After a lot of research, I decided it was the best for me. I take a lot of shots in a high school gym at my daughter's volleyball games. I'm looking forward to using it.

If you are just usi9ng it to put shots in the yearbook and the school paper, then you are overbuying. IMO! You don't need 8 MP to proint that small. I would look for something wiht a max of 4 or 5 MP and you could get a lot more lenses instead of spending so much money on an 8MP camera that will take more processing to resize tio fit the constraints of the printing you will be doing.

Many of our pages are 8.5x11 full color shots. Would 4 or 5MP re4ally work for that?

I had printed many 8x10 an 8.5x11 when I had a 5mp sony. They looked great. But with 8mp I can crop a complete third away from the pic and still get a nice print. Which is nice if you do not have a big zoom lens.

Almost any file printed for publishing needs to be post processed. You can do batch process to resize. Even thousands of photos, just run the process ovenight.

I have printed decent 8x10 from my 2MP camera but clear ones will be good at 4 or 5. Your printer proabnbly only prints at 150 DPI so you have more than enough information.

JR6ooo4 .... You should be cropping in that much. if you need to be closer, get closer! or you can get a good zoom lens. You shouldn't count on cropping evry picture. It may not always be in focus there.

I talked to my rep at my yearbook publisher and they recommended at least 6 but preferred 8mp.

Now, here's the best part. They offered to reimburse us for the cost of the Olympus. Why? :confused3 To keep us happy I guess.

:cheer2: (I never thought I have a reason to use this one.)

Hey, If someone were going to reimburse me for a great camera then I would buy it too. You'll be able to get some great action shots with the camera.

But you can not always move closer like when sitting in the stands at a football game or seperated from a photo subject by a fence.

I suggest starting with the better body and an adequite lens. Then add lenses as finances allow.

I did have a 70-300 with me but did not want to bring out another lens into the rainy weather we were having.
