I am fortunate to be able to attend the woman's trials after attending the men's trials in November. They are on April 20 in Boston amd as in New York they are doing loops to make for a great spectator race.

1st - Deena Kastor - Yeah, real stretch there considering that her qualifying time was 12 minutes faster than anyone else. The clear favorite and an obvious pick to win.

2nd - Kate O'Neill - She trains with Kastor and had her qualifying time in the sweltering heat of Chicago where she was the top American to finish. She also grew up outside Boston.

3rd - This is a tough pick because of my two choices. There are both pros and cons as to why they should or should not be picked.
Elva Dryer has been at it for a while having qualified for two Olympics (10,000).
Blake Russell lead the 04 trials for 25 miles before being passed in the last mile by 3 people to finish off the podium.

My question is this - Do I take the woman with two olympics or a woman who for 4 years has woken up every day knowing that she was a mile from running in the Olympics.

My pick for #3 is --- Blake Russell

I'll be rooting for the women of the Hanson-Brooks Distance Project. Gotta support the local team! My "shoe dollars" at work (Hansons Running Store). Already qualified Brian Sell for the men.

DD, who's student at MIT, will be able to watch the race go right in front of her dorm on Mem Drive.

I'll concur with Blake Russell. Anyone who shares Pre's go for broke mentality is getting a :thumbsup2 in my book...

I like Deanna so I hope she gets a spot. I'm with Maura though for personal cheering for Hansons. I'm a Hansons girl :cutie: But I think Deanna Rocks! I loved seeing her in the Spirit of Marathon movie.

Scott have a blast at the trails!!! How cool that is going to be :)

I think it will be real cool. We are going up the night before to scout a little. For the men, we had a horrible spot at the finish and I don't want that to happen again. This course looks a little more open though. They say that you can cross the course at specific points.

I must admit that I got caught up in the Hanson/Brooks thing with the men.

I'll post a report.

:thumbsup2 Hey Scott, I will be there too!!!!

We are very excited. DH is running the Boston Marathon the next day!!!

I can't wait to check out the expo.:yay:

Colleen

Someday, I'll run it too. We are going up in Saturday night and staying at a hotel near the Riverside Station so we can take the train in. I doubt that we will be able to check out the expo though. My goal is to get a front row seat on the corner if Commonwealth and (whatever the bridge road is). I plan on bringing chairs! Good luck to DH.

Hey Scott,

I'll be there too, although I'll most likely be watching from the Cambridge side of the river (Memorial Drive just east of Mass Ave bridge). The marathon course goes along where I go running, of course I have to run on the sidewalks and they'll be able to run on the roads, and they'll be going 4 or 5 minutes per mile faster than I run. I'm really excited to see the race. Let's hope for some decent weather. I'm not ready to make any predictions on the winner, but I'll be rooting for all the locals.
