Olga’s cantina....

not annoyed that kids are in Disney parks, but its nice to finally have a place thats not kid friendly. I get it, its Disney and there will be kids. I go to Disney Parks as its my happy place and now with Batuu and Ogas there is actually somewhere just for me, an adult. I guess I'm getting a tad fed up of all the Disney families complaining about Batuu and Ogas and wanting it to be a generic land like the rest of Disney.

Generic? I don't think Disney is generic (or at least wasn't) - that's why we (two adults) go. Animal Kingdom generic? Blasphemy! :)

Generic is adding IP to every part of the parks when parks used to be able to stand on their own with ingenuity and imagination.

Well I’m an adult and I don’t think Oga’s is very friendly to tired old adults either! :rotfl:

I think it had the potential to be a amazing place and experience, and Disney messed it up.

Generic as in
  • having music playing like in Fantasyland
  • having kid friendly food like fries, pizza, chicken nuggets
  • having traditional character meet and greets
  • having kid friendly priced merch instead of high quality collectors items
  • turning Ogas in a kid friendly lounge with low tables and chairs and not having weird drinks
  • get rid of the stupid Batuu language and the cm's just speak normally
these are just some of the criticisms Ive seen here on Dis about Batuu from Disney families, basically they want the heart and soul and everything thats unique and innovative ripped out and Batuu turned into a generic land

If it is not supposed to include kids then why didn’t Disney specify it as adult only like V&A or Trader Sam’s (after 8pm)? And more importantly why is half the drink menu nonalcoholic sugary drinks and jello with boba and pop rocks in it? I tell you why—because as much as some adults want Disney to have stuff just for them (which is silly just like it would be silly to have a restaurant just for families with kids), it is families that Disney makes their real money on.

Guess what, I have news for you: there are characters you can meet in SWGE, there is a kids menu serving fried chicken and mac n cheese, sugary drinks galore including blue/green mill and Ogas’s, they do have gobs of kid friendly merch, and kids love calling strollers ”youngling transports” and saying “bright suns.” It is really not a space intended just for adults.

We all loved the Batuu bits. DD (11) loved it too, as she's a huge SW fan. We thought it was themed perfectly, and loved the chants and interaction with the bartenders/servers. Our servers were always in character, too. DH and I both went twice, and I can't wait to go back again. Everything at SWGE was perfect for us!

WHY do you think everywhere must be family friendly?

I think all the places in Disney that do not actually prohibit children are family friendly. That said, some places are geared toward children while others are not. From what I'm reading, Oga's is a bar geared toward adults. It won't prohibit children, but most of the spots are standing room at the bar or high tables that kids can't easily reach. It is what it is, and you make your choice. If you're a couple without kids and you book Chef Mickey's, that's fine, but don't complain about all the loud kids excited to see the characters. If you're a family with kids and you book Oga's, that's fine, but don't complain that there isn't anywhere for your kids to sit. Not everything is perfect for everyone.

I went to the one in Disneyland, and my mom was in an ECV. We were given priority for a booth because you had to park the ECV outside and having her stand was not an option, but they were super nice and accommodating, they asked us if we needed to be able to be sat at a table with somewhere to sit. We had to wait for the next available booth, but we lucked out and it was about instantly available.

I'm not sure if you can request a place with seating, but it does seem like there's a procedure for it so give it a shot if it's necessary for you to sit. But, like others have said it's mostly standing at tables. At least the one is Disneyland is and from what I understand they're almost the same.

I don’t think it must be family friendly, I think it is family friendly. Disney runs tv ads for star wars land on the Disney channel all the time featuring kids. So pretty sure they think it is family friendly too.

I agree. I think that while children are no actually prohibited from some of the lounges, etc, there are ways to make the areas less inviting for them. I do not see anything wrong with that, especially in a resort complex the size of WDW. I like kids, have some of my own, as well as grandchildren, but there are times when I have no problem espcaping to an area that is conducive to adults. If people choose to bring ther youngsters in and find it is not as comfortable as other areas, that is their decision, but they own it at that point. Kids do nto need to be included in everything everywhere.

I bet it is for the most part, with one spot the youngsters may not enjoy.

I have booked Oga's for our trip, but am on the fence about it. I have 2 13 YO girls with me, and they are not SW fans at all, however I thought they might enjoy a stroll through the land and a stop for a beverage. I am not sure we want to be herded in and out like cattle though, if that is how this works, so hopefully I can find enough reviews to determine if this is an experience with the money it is going to cost to visit.

I think it somehow got lost in this discussion that whether ogas should have seats is a separate discussion from whether it is kid friendly. I think the menu and decor is very kid friendly—my kids really want to see the robit and worrrrt and try a hyperdrive and blue milk with cookie. I think the lack of seats is not appealing to kids OR many adults. As I said, I haven’t gone to (or even seen) a standing room only bar since college. I expect to be able to sit at the bar when I go for a drink without kids—and I would especially want to sit after walking around all day at WDW. It is a weird concept.

We went 9/25 EEMH as walk ins. We were seated and joined by 2 other couples. We mostly went to soak up the atmosphere but since we had arrived at HS at 5:30 am, it was an opportunity to grab a roll (pretty good and large enough to share) and a cup of coffee. It was enjoyable. There were a couple of families that’s came in but didn’t stay long. I think it’s worth a visit if you are a SW fan or just interested in SW but definitely not a restaurant. I don’t know if we would go out of our way to go back but it was a nice event to experience 1 time.

We are WAY off topic.

We went yesterday for a 12:15 ADR. Only waited 5 min but when we got in, our assigned place at the bar was about 1 person wide (we were two adults and one child). I flagged someone down and asked if this was normal or if we should have a section wide enough for all of us. He said that we must have been brought to the wrong spot and moved us to a spot at the bar that was wide enough two of us 🤷🏻‍♀️. My son (13) decided he would sit on the floor in the corner so we had two drinks and then left. The drinks were yummy but the atmosphere wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be, although we were at the very end of the bar so maybe that’s why.

From what I saw, there were a few tables for sitting but everything else was standing only.

I’m glad we did it but I think I can pass on my next trips! 8EEF4B12-B9F1-4759-9C10-619CED689E3E.jpegFD260BA2-EE6C-4C4C-AB52-B541855163BB.jpeg

Yes, it is almost all standing. Yes, it is themed to be loud bar. Yes, it is not a place to go relax. However it is still very kid friendly and some place we will go every trip. The wife and I went to Oga's in Disneyland with a 3 year old and a 5 year old twice in July (one afternoon, one evening.) Both times we got a high table that was standing room only. We had to hand the kids their drinks and help them with the jello; stuff we have to do with a 3 & 5 year old anyway. They loved dancing and looking around. When they got tired, they sat on the floor against the wall under/beside the table as a lot of other kids did as well. If you have to have a seat then this is not the attraction you are looking for but if you want to take the kids and enjoy, may the force be with you!

We went to the one in DL and spent more time looking around and taking pictures. We previewed the menu and didn't want anything (if they had food it would have been different) so just went for the atmosphere.

Also, not all adults drink alcohol, so having something sober folks can enjoy that is "Special" is pretty cool. And kids doesn't just mean little kids, families don't just include small children. My DS12 and DS10 were over the moon about their visit to Oga's, their special drinks, and the whole atmosphere. It's not for everyone, but neither are princess meals.
