Older Kids and Kids Menus

I have a 10 year old who is an incredibly picky eater. We are lucky to get her to eat from a kids' menu at most restaurants, and there's no way she'll eat the items on many adult menus. However, Disney seems to classify her as an adult in terms of which menu she would get. So, the natural questions are:
- Will she be able to order off of a kids menu at most restaurants, or do they enforce the age limits?
- For "special" dining (like character dining or WOC dining) I assume we'd still have to pay the "adult" price. But, do you think they'd let her order something from the kid menu anyway?

My 14 y/o DS is the same way, such a picky eater. He won't eat at most places in the park as it is, even off the kid's menu. But, they will allow him to order off any kid's menu. Even my mom sometimes orders a kid's meal. At character breakfasts/meals you do have to pay the adult price. One time, a nice CM at Ariel's let me pay kid's price, but that was the exception not the rule. It helped that he looked younger than he really is.

Counter service - order whatever you want, nobody cares.

Table service (nothing special), at 10, she very likely may be able to order from the kid's menu with a regular kid portion (and price); otherwise, she'll be able to get a double portion for double the price.

At anything special (buffets, character dining), she'll have to pay the adult price, but will still be able to get a double portion of the kid's item if she chooses.

My younger daughter is 22, and still sometimes has issues at restaurants, adn we use the kids' menu. Disneyland has never been an issue. They usually give her an adult portion at the adult price. At 10, I would figure they will still do the kids price for regular sit downs. At buffets, Ariel's, or CLub 33, expect to pay an adult price. (My niece was 10 last summer, and had the adult version of Mac and cheese in C33 at the adult price.)

Sorry to hijack and possibly really silly question but....

How are folks able to get into Club 33? I thought you had to be a member or know a member, or is that the case in most of the posts I've been reading? I have seen their menu on AllEars so that got me curious as well.

As for the kids meals, I order them all the time when I don't feel like an adult meal. No problems at all.

Correct. The club requires membership or a reservation made on a member's behalf in order to dine there. If your brother is the Maitre'd...that helps too.

i ordered a kids meal for my self in late may it was fine and no one questioned it. its small but its good and cheap to get us by

Now I have to ask, is your brother the Maitre'd, because if so, that would be so cool! :)

This has been my experience with kids ordering from the kids menu when they are 10 and up. When ordering from the kids menu at CS it is not a problem, I have been able to order for myself off the kids menu at CS places, I've even ordered myself a Power Pack (geared towards kids/toddlers) a few times. :) When ordering from TS the general rule is double the portion at double the price, I have been able to do that and my girls have been able to share with no problems (my girls are not huge eaters) at TS places. :) Most notably we do this at CO where they order the pasta and chicken dish to share, we split it ourselves so no split plate fee. At character meals or buffets you will be charged the adult price for your 10 year old. At Storyteller's DD12 wanted a pizza from the kids menu on our trip in March, she was able to order that pizza for a $2 upcharge.
Edited to add, at places like AG she can order from the kids menu, however she will be charged the adult price. :)

Does anyone know how this works for Blue Bayou? We really wanted to go there this time, but I knew my 2 older kids wouldn't eat anything off the adult menu so I was going to skip it. My daughter is 12 and my son is 10, so could they order off the kids menu? If they do, will they get charged an adult price or just an upcharge of some sort? This is so exciting. We may get to eat where we wanted after all!! :cool1:

My family and I went to DL for about 2 days in 2010 as part of our "Out West" trip. We did eat at the Blue Bayou and I typically don't eat a full meal because the adult portions are just so large. I ordered off the kids menu without any problems. Hubby ordered a regular adult meal, while DS and I both ordered off the kids menu. No problems and more than enough food for me.

You got lucky, or a very nice server, this is not standard practice at BB. Standard practice is what I mentioned above (as have others), the double/double rule. The upcharge I mentioned was only at Storytellers and likely because she ordered the pizza, had it been something else off the menu it would have been the double/double rule.

VanRy will your kids share a meal at BB? If so go that route, order 1 meal from the adult menu and split it between them, don't ask them to split it, simply ask for an extra plate and split it yourself, you don't get extra sides or starters that way but you don't have to pay the $12 split plate fee either. :)

He was the Maitre'd for several years..as well as my SIL...they met working there. Unfortunately, it is not as easy to get a reservation these days...especially with all the membership changes. He still has connections though. Thank goodness!:thumbsup2

My experience with the BB is that you can order off the kids menu but you will be charged the adult price..if you get a great server they may beg off on the adult charge but do not count on it. We go early and always get waterside.
