What do you think of pre-teen in a double rented stroller? :scared:

My dd is 11 and says she wants a stroller as she hates walking!! Now she is 5'2 and 101 pounds!! :earseek:

I used a storller for my 6 year old one day, he walked the rest of the 8 days right with me, mind you I wish he could have pushed me sometimes haha

I think wants is the operative word here. If I gave my kids everything they WANT, I don't think I would be doing my job as a parent.

What do I think of a pre-teen in a double rented stroller? Spoiled is what I would think.

I was debating whether to get a stroller for occasional use for my 4 (almost 5) -year-old and seven-year-old daughters for the bigger parks. I think I will, but will lecture my older one that it's only for her VERY occasional use. I can't imagine ever getting a stroller for any child over 8! I would be shocked to see a pre-teen in a stroller. And can't believe that a pre-teen would want to be seen in one! I think she wouldn't once she got there and saw that only younger children were in them.

For the 4 year, I would for sure, if he tires. When I was 11 years old in Disney a stroller was the lat thing on my mind, I was running so fast, the rest of the family had to keep up with me! :rotfl:

Wow! I'm just an inch taller and 10 lbs heavier. Hmmmm. . . I wonder if I could convince DH to let ME ride in a stroller?

I think you would get tired of pushing her!!

We were in WDW last month. My 7 and 10 YO DDs kept up with all of the walking without a single complaint and we did the parks for 6 straight days.

11 and in a stroller??

I think you would get some very strange looks!

What do you mean she doesn't want to walk? She is in Disney World!

And does she walk at home? Do you push her in a stroller at the mall? In front of her friends?

I would tell her if she didn't want to walk, then she didn't have to come.

I think that if she doesn't want to walk, she can stay home.

Oh she's not getting one but I am sure she will try and sneak in the one for the 5yo.
I just couldn't believe she said she wanted one.The last time we went she was 8 and I would on occasion let her sit when she was tired. She loved it, the lazy slug. :teeth: She loves to run track and is the jump rope champanion at her school. She just hates walking.
I told her if she would push me too (only an inch taller) then she could have one :rotfl: She didn't like that answer too much. :confused3 :teeth:

Forgot to mention....DS was 5 and 1/2 last summer and he walked all day! From EMH at MK (7:30 we got there for 8am opening) till after 11:00pm (stayed for fireworks). We did commando in MK that day--only leaving to take a ride on the monorail. He walked the entire day (too :goodvibes ) and didn't complain once! Of course, after we boarded the bus back to the resort, he crashed!

When we went with extended family. Not one 8, 9, 10 or 11 yr. old was embarressed to sit in the big Disney stroller. It was really for the little kids. But the little ones would sometimes want to get up and walk. As soon as there was a free space one of the older kids would get in and take turns. But none stayed in for more than 10 or 20 minutes at a time.
Can't say I blame them we did a lot of walking and standing.
But I would not rent just for the older kids. Doubles are expensive and an 11 yr. probably wouldn't want to stay in it that long. I would just do a lot more rest stops.

I'd tell her that you will want to try it out at the local mall on a Friday or Saturday night first to see if it will work ... you can borrow a stroller from a friend and then will push her in it for 2-3 hours while you shop.

You might also let her know that if she gets that tired during the day, she will need to be in bed early each night and take an afternoon nap while the rest of you are out having fun ... just like other "little ones" that use strollers do.

That should cure her of that idea!

----

She doesn't really sound that interested in going to WDW!!!

Rent a wheelchair for her instead. We did that with my sister when she was a teenager, but she has medical problems and had a valid excuse. ;)

I have a suggested solution for you. Give her something to do. Put her in charge of the map and leading your directions. When we took my step-son for 8 days when he was 7, he loved having the map. Granted he was younger, but ask her to be the guide. Give her an important job that keeps her focused on what and where you are heading next. Buy her disposable cameras and tell her she is in charge of the family photos. Keep her busy and she might not notice the walking.

:o)

Teach her independence and responsibility....get her her very own Char Broil Fire and Ice Cooler and Grill Combo to push around the parks.
