Trying to find out if anyone has any prior experience. My sister in law has 1 adult and 2 child 4 day park hopper tickets that were purchased in 1996, but never used. We are thinking about buying from them, but would need to add days to the tickets. I called Disney but the guy said the cost to add days would be calculated on a different sale but he didn't know what it was and we could only find out once we got there. I am trying to save a little by buying the tickets from them, but if we have to pay the total difference in the old cost and what the 7 day ticket would be now then there's no reason to mess with it. Anyone ever done this?
Thanks!

I believe that pre-MYW tickets cannot be upgraded. MYW tickets were introduced in 2005.

Disney will still honor any tickets sold prior to 2005 for whatever entitlements are on those tickets but they will not add more days to them.

Check the ticket sticky on the TPAS forum. Post #8 addresses your question.

ETA: Note that it IS possible to have the original value of the tickets applied to the purchase of MYW tickets if the old Park Hoppers are unused. However, this is generally not a good use of those tickets.

Those are valuable tickets because they are 4 day park hoppers..While I am not certain, I am pretty sure you can add those extra 3 days for not much at all. I would definitely try to use these. The easiest place to get these changed over would be at Downtown Disney where it should be less crowded..Guest Services..

Totally unused tickets can be traded in towards new tickets with more days, etc. The trade in value is what Disney received for the tickets which can be a little less than what the ticket holder paid for them.

With these (pre-2005) tickets you definitely cannot add three more (5'th, 6'th, 7'th) days for not much more. Also, in practically all cases it is not cost effective to use old tickets and buy new tickets during the same vacation..

Is your sister in law willing to sell them at a nontrivial discount from what she paid?

You cannot add days to pre-MYW tickets. You can only apply the original price of those tickets toward the purchase of new MYW tickets with more days IF the old park hoppers have not been used.

In the OP's case, she would be able to use those tickets to purchase MYW passes. In 1996, Disney charged $137.00-$144.00 for an adult 4 Day Park Hopper and $109.00-$115.00 for a child's (prices went up on 02/26/96).

OP i think with a ticket that old your best bet is to use them....they probably cost in total the cost of one day right now.....:thumbsup2

I didn't follow the link provided, but if I remember correctly from past experience, you can only use those old tickets for parks that were open at the time they were purchased. So if the tickets were bought before AKL was opened, they are not good there, etc. I still have a couple of very old ones stuck in a drawer I need to get out and use.

Late breaking news! (actually a few years old)

Old theme park tickets are good at all 4 theme parks.
