OLD THREAD: 2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ, Part 2- May, June and July DON'T POST HERE!

I will be at YC from 8/20 - 8/25 after Portofino Bay 8/15 - 8/19
Please add me to the list. Thanks! :cool1:

Also,
Is there anywhere to get a burger at YC/BC? I can't really read the menus at the pool place. Also, is there anything for sale at the resorts that has Yacht club or beach club? I would love to have a coffee mug and a key chain.

Thanks.

Have you stayed at Portofino Bay before? We stayed for 4 nights last summer. I have lots of pictures of the room and resort in my Welcome Foolish Muggles trip report (link in my signature, chapter links in the report)

Yahoo! Guess what came in the mail!

Wow! Haven't been on the DIS in a while, but couldn't contain my excitement any longer and had to get back on now that we have confirmed our reservation at the Yacht Club for Marathon Weekend!! :cool1:

Husband is going "goofy" and doing both the 1/2 and the full marathons so we are trying out a new place for this trip (kid-free too)! We have stayed at Poly, CBR, and POR, and husband and son have stayed at Sports for Star Wars Weekend once. This will be our first Epcot resort and I'm so excited!!

:dance3::dance3::dance3:

Now I'm off to read this thread (which I'm sure will get me even more excited)!

Ok you guys will think I am a MORON but...Soon as a PP mentioned NewportBeach, I realized I was at Newport Beach, Laguna Beach and Fashion Island in college...but can you believe NOT Disneyworld??? I didn't even know it was close to Disneyworld but sounds like it was!!!pirate: I do remember doing a Hollywood Tour....and shopping and liking the beach a lot...I can totally SEE what you guys are getting at. So if this is what surrounds DL, it isn't the "immersive" feel that I would get a WDW. DL is just a huge attraction in a city with many other things to do. I don't think I can justify the long flight, etc. when I really have no interest in any other destination out that way to be honest....Sea World? eh I too am an animal lover and think SW is odd...Legoland Dd too old...Maybe when DD is out of the house, DH and I will do ABD there...but for now I am sticking wtih WDW....THANK YOU! You guys are great to bounce ideas off...

Hi scottmel. I am heading to southern CA and DL/DCA next week! I will probably do a write up (not a full trip report as I admit I am too lazy to do that...haha). We are visiting my brother-in-law and family. We plan on heading to Huntington Beach (he used to live there) for a day or so and to Newport (probably for a sunset cruise). We will also be going to an Angels game one night. I booked a few nights at an offsite/nearby hotel (just can't pay the rack rates for the DLR hotels, especially when our airfare is much higher than a WDW trip for us!). Our relatives have APs but since they go all the time we figured we should stay near DLR so we can do it all. From my research thus far, seems 4 days are needed if you want to do everything (rides, shows). They have made many changes to DCA. Yes the parks are much smaller but they seem to pack a lot of attractions there. I don't think we will head to Universal though we were there 8 years ago and enjoyed it.

Oh I actually got a mail piece that made me think the DLR hotel rates were discounted. It said 'Stay in the middle of the magic in August with rates starting at... for most nights 8/1-8/18. However when I actually went to the website they were rack rates!!

Welcome back Robyn. Sorry to hear about your niece. Hugs to you and your family and to everyone else on these boards. We lost my Dad back in November 2010 to cancer and my father in law in November 2011 to ALS. I told my DH that I am not working much beyond the my youngest getting out of college as life is too short. I may still work, but a part time job doing something totally different.

YCFAN...that is something how you have been to all 3 DIS Meets! I made the first one and enjoyed seeing the pics and hearing about this year's meet.

And a big shout out to Dee who keeps this thread going and to Teena for being so wonderful!!

Kerry

I was just reading the Disney Food Blog and saw this posted:

"Hurricane Hanna’s: Closing August 8th for an extensive renovation."

Does anyone here know what they are doing or how long they are expecting it to take?

Nooooooooo!! Hopefully to for too long!

WHAT????? that's TERRIBLE - Why didn't they tell us this a long time ago??

So, I went and looked at the Disney Food Blog and the WDW News Today website, the one with the Refurbishment update and I did not see anything.
Why on earth would they start a renovation during a crowded time and not, like, January or something?
Makes absolutely no sense.

Check my post again. I posted link to page I saw it on. I subscribe to their emails and saw it in today's email info

This was list actually listed in their email:

July 1 - October 31: Bistro de Paris
July 8 - 21: Narcoossee's
July 9 - August 6: Cape May Cafe

Teena: Enjoy your time with Jeanne and Lily! I can't wait to hear all about it and see pictures!

Aliceacc, Couchy and all headed to WDW soon: Enjoy your upcoming trips!

Diskids2: WOW, That's a lot of money! Maybe you could check out (dare I say it) Swan/Dolphin.

KerriL: That is a very cute baby!

ScottMC: I love when my Mickey Mail comes!

Dee: I love Goldenrod's! I haven't been yet this summer.

Scottmel: I went to DL as a kid and enjoyed it. My Dad wanted to take us there because when he was a kid that was the only Disney park. We did all the other nearby tourist stuff too. It was a fun time. When we were first married, DH & I went and did all the nearby tourist stuff as well. We had a great time! We haven't taken our kids yet, mainly because we are on the east coast and I don't want to spend the money on the flights. My kids love WDW and haven't asked to go to DL yet. If we go to DL, we will do all the other nearby tourist stuff, as it will probably be a once in a lifetime trip.

To all who shared their personal stories: Thank you :grouphug: I will share mine. Some of you might remember my Dad had a heart attack last summer. Thankfully he survived, but it was a very long, scary road for all of us. At first, the doctors couldn't tell us anything, like if my Dad would survive. Then they couldn't tell us if he would have permanent brain damage. He had several surgeries and then went to rehab for several months. Miraculously, he made a great recovery! Fast forward to this past June, and we all (lots of relatives) went to WDW together again! We blame my Dad for our WDW obsession, because he is the one who insisted on going every year since it opened! It was so wonderful to see my parents enjoying themselves just like the old days! It is a trip we will never forget and we are so grateful we were all able to go together! For some families, WDW memories will last a lifetime!

Just dropping in to say that we booked BC for our April 2013 trip!!! We'll be there 4/20-4/28. Very excited to try BC for the first time! :cool1:

We were able to book with a 15% discount (AAA), but I'm hoping for an extension of the military discount or at least a decent AP discount!!

We just returned from a 10 night stay WL CL which was wonderful! Now, counting down to our next stay!!! :cheer2:

Thanks!! The limo comes at 5:45 tomorrow morning, and we're all aquiver with excitement!!

I know that feeling well! I hope you all are able to get some sleep tonight!

I just noticed you're from Long Island. We were at Hofstra for a LAX tournament, a few weeks ago and enjoyed it!

I'll be there at the same time, except at YC.

Princess Lily (and Jeanne too of course) are on their way. I hope we don't hear anything about a baby getting kicked off Southwest for screaming!!

I'm running around like crazy trying to make sure everything is Lily proof. And of course the vacuum died dead. Bob's working on it but it looks like we'll have to add a vacuum to the shopping list tomorrow. Jeanne, Lily and I have to go out and buy two weeks worth of Lily food, diapers, etc. I have enough for two days but I wanted to make sure we get the right stuff so the three of us will go shopping tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow night is Ohana's for dinner ... Jeanne's favorite.

Thursday is the first trip to Typhoon Lagoon.

Friday is Magic Kingdom (AM only) and her first haircut.

I will have Jeanne send pictures to Dee so you can share along with "Princess Lily's First Trip to WDW".

And I big thank you from Jeanne, Bob and I (and of course the Princess herself if she could talk) for all the many gifts and cards that have been sent for her first birthday. Tonight we will celebrate!!!

Congratulations on the upcoming visit of Lily! It is such a fun age! I hope you guys will be able to get some sleep with her sleeping in the room with you! When my mom just watched the boys overnight at her house, she didn't get any sleep because she kept listening to all their little night time sounds! I can't wait to hear how her first trip to WDW is. My boys (20 months) will have their first trip in about 2 weeks!

That is wierd because we were also told by CRO that a party of 5 couldn't book gv cl or lv cl at either BC or YC. Even when you do check online they don't even offer it to you. We were told only sv cl or a deluxe room.

I was nervous about the sv cl room but we lucked out and had a room with a great view of the back entrance to BC and a sideway view of Crescent Lake.

Yes natebenma and I got that all worked out! LOL:lmao: I was momentarily insane and didn't realize they had 3 views on CL. I thought it was still just garden and water. So I knew we didn't have water so I assumed we had been in garden. But apparently sometime last year they added the 3rd category as standard and that is what we are booked in. Hopefully it will turn out OK. We arrive Saturday! :goodvibes Sorry for the confusion.

WHOOOOOAAAAAAA Nelly!!!!! Hurricane Hannah's is going to close??? How is that going to work??? How do we get food and drinks at the pool??? Specifically how am I going to get my Sunken Treasures??????? Will there still be waitresses????????????? This is major big news for me!!!!!!!!!!!
