I'd like to print out my trip reports from last April but I can't find them using the search feature. I was going through my vacation journals tonight and realized I never printed them out as I intended to :scared1: If anyone has some spare time and can find them for me, I would REALLY appreciate it !! :)

I think if you click on 'user CP' there on the left (under disboards.com) you'll see posts you've subscribed to. Under that it should say 'view all subscribed threads' or some such. If you click on that it might have your old posts, I believe the ones you start or answer get saved automatically.

Thanks !! That was just what I needed. I have never been able to correctly use the search forum on this board :confused3

Rhonda....thanks so much for taking the time to find those for me. I actually spend the last half hour rereading my trip report. It was bittersweet. It was really neat to bring back all those memories...but now I want to go back RIGHT NOW, lol :sad2:

The search features of this board leave a LOT to be desired. It can't even find a person's post when you choose the "Find all posts by..." link on the menu that comes up when you click on a person's username. I would think that would be one of the simpler searches for the system yet whenever I use it I get "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms." no matter who I search for.

I thought it was just me that can't find anything with the ezboard search function!

Being able to search is just about the only thing I miss from usenet.

I just did a bunch of digging around on the Technical board and found out that for over a year the search engine used is a beta version (at least two different verisons but both beta versions). Seems that things like "Find all posts by..." have been disabled on all skins except one called "California Gold". I tried it out and while I could search by username the colors that skin uses hurt the eyes.

Well, I'd say it's a resounding failure, if they're looking for any feedback on that beta. LOL

I believe the Search function is something that the Webmasters are working on. Hopefully it will get better soon. :)

I believe the search feature has intentionally been turned off to keep post numbers up high and thereby making disboard appear to have more traffic that it would had the search feature been working. This translates into more $$$ for the owners of this board, since they can charge more based upon higher post counts and relative BBS rankings.

I frequent several large boards using this same software and they all have a fully working search feature. There is no reason for it not to work.

Can you image all the questions that wouldn't get asked over and over and over if search worked? It would make this place so much more informative simply because people wouldn't constantly be asking the same questions all the time (hopefully).

But, that's why we're here! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

True, but wouldn't it be nice if you didn't have to answer the same thing over & over and be able to provide new information or assistance?

Years ago the search function DID work. Granted, it was turned off during peak times, but it worked other times.

I came back to look for something about 6 months ago and was shocked that I couldn't find what I needed by using search. It was a basic question and I just needed clarification, but I had to ask it again. After coming here once a week (about) since, I'm shocked to see the same stuff being asked all the time.

I understand the need to make money to keep these boards going, but turning off the jumping icons and ridiculous signatures has got to be able to free up resources to allow searches - unless they don't want to :)

There are threads going on right now on the Technical Board, that explain the reason Search is not working the way we would like it to. We're using and testing a Beta Version now.

Here is a quote from October 2:
"Since the system is in Beta and bugs, problems and obstacles are found on a daily basis, its impossible to give an exact date. And as it goes, things that should have taken a day take a week and visa versa.

We are attempting to both stabilize the system and finish indexing all pending within the next 45-60 days. Having said that, we wont be surprised if it takes 30 days or 90 days. A system that complex has a life of its own understand that BoardTracker deals not only with Disboards but with many thousands of other boards, some bigger, some smaller, but overall a huge collection. "

I hope this answers your question, and helps everyone to understand that the DIS has not "intentionally turned off [the Search function] to keep post counts high."

I understand that's what they say. What I believe is a whole other story :)

Sorry if you felt it was out of line.

No problem! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. :goodvibes I just want to be sure that people know the facts. :) And, since the OP has had her question answered, I'm going to lock this thread now. If anyone would like to discuss the Search Function further, please feel free to visit the Technical Board.

Have a great day everyone! :thumbsup2
