My DDs and I went on a mini shopping spree at Old Navy on Monday. They needed dressy summer clothing and shoes for some upcoming events (weddings, recitals, and graduation parties), and since I had just paid off my ON card, I figured we could take a little spree.

We spent a little over $200, which was more than I had planned, but I decided to just grin and bear it. I had a $5 reward coupon, but that wasn't much help lol.

Imagine my surprise, when we got home and found an Old Navy coupon for 30% in my mailbox! The coupon promotion started Thursday. So, on Thursday, I took my receipt and the coupon to Old Navy and asked for a price adjustment. I have done this at MANY stores, and it has ALWAYS been honored.

But Old Navy wouldn't honor it. They told me that the only thing I could do would be to return all of the merchandise and re-purchase it. I debated a bit with them, and finally the guy said he would take a look at my receipt. And when he did........he found that ALL of the items I purchased on Monday had since been MARKED UP in anticipation of the big 30% coupon sale!

Interesting, huh? Just when we think we're saving a few $$$...........

I guess I always knew that stores did this, but never experienced it first-hand.

I'm almost certain the coupon says "Not valid on previous purchases" which would make your shopping trip three days prior ineligible. Applying a coupon is different than a price adjustment.

It's happened to me before at various places, so I either accept it or return the items and rebuy if it's a large enough savings.

Did they actually mark the items up, or were they just no longer on sale?

Hmmm...not sure! This is exactly what the salesperson said to me: "Almost all of the items you purchased on Monday were marked up yesterday in anticipation of the 30% off coupon starting today."

For a $60 savings, I would have marched in with all the items and made them do the return and re-purchase!

I may have done exactly that, until he showed me that almost everything I'd purchased had been subsequently marked up, and I wouldn't have ended up saving anything anyway! (wasn't that clear in my OP??)
