Old Life Insurance Policies - How to trace them?

Hi all,

Sadly my Nan passed away on the 22nd so spent the last week over in Cumbria sorting funeral arrangements, etc. As I'm the oldest grandchild its on me to sort paperwork and bank stuff out. My aunt gave me some old life insurance policies from the late 30's and early 40's which I'm sure won't be still valid, but she insisted once they paid into them for a fixed term, they were valid until death and would pay out.

Can anyone tell me how I would go about finding out about this, I'm not sure if CAB would deal with this sort of thing. I think they are with Refuge, Liverpool Victoria Friendly, and Royal Liver.

I used to work for Liverpool Victoria & Royal London Insurance and if you forward the policies to them they will do a trace on them and advise you if there is any value attaching to them. (Also enclose the Death Certificate) photocopies are not accepted

Its actually suprising the values that are attached to them.

I had the same with my dad, sometimes the insurance has gone into another company, or companies, but they do pay out.

Try an online search on the names of the companies, sometimes you can find which company they have merged into.

Thanks guys, I'll try searching for them online and contact them. Thank you for your kind words about my nan, she was 86 and a truly great woman, never selfish or nasty about anyone. She suffered with alzheimers and had been in a home for the past 5 years, she wasn't aggresive or awkward, just wanted to hug everyone. Thankfully she had never been physically ill until about a year ago when she started getting chest infections, so we know she was in her own happy little world and didn't really suffer.
