We have a last minute weekend gettaway and staying at Old Key West--can anyone tell me about room? All we know is that we have a $209 room with queen beds.....

Sounds like a studio room. It will have a mini-fridge and microwave.

I say you have a studio. The room will have two queen beds, a kitchenette (includes a mini refrig and a microwave along with a sink). A couple of paper plates and plastic utensils. the bathroom is larger than most hotel rooms. You will also have a small deck. Trust me you will love it. The resort itself is awesome.

We have DVC and Old Key West is where we stay most regularly. It's gorgeous, very "Florida" feeling with pastel colors and white picket fences with Mickey heads in them! The resort is large and laid out condo-style, so if you have a vehicle you'll be able to park right outside. Otherwise there are lots of bus stops. There are 3 or 4 "quiet pools" and a main pool, although the main pool has no slide (A project will add one in fall 2004). You check in at Hospitality House, the main building, and there is a great restaurant, Olivia's, that serves all 3 meals. We like it a lot. There is a great little gift/grocery shop and a bar. There is also a recreation center and you can rent boats, bikes and sports equipment. Two of the pools offer sncaks and drinks.

This place makes you RELAX. It never feels crowded, even at full capacity. It's lush and beautiful - -the grounds rival those at the Polynesian. The studio room is a nice size with a large bathroom and a great little kitchenette. Each room will have a nice covered balcony with two chairs and a little table. Great views of gardens, golf courses, waterways or pools.

Enjoy! I obviously love the place and I hope you will too.

We are renting a 2 BD the week of June 5th. How long does it take to get to the Disney properties from OKW? I see that the Disney transportation includes the buses and water transportation. Does it take a long time to get there using them? We will have 2 vehicles, so we could possibly drive in too if that would be easier. Just wondering what opinions people have about the transportation issue.
Thanks so much!

Note that OKW also has the LARGEST units, ie more square footage than any other regular hotel room in WDW. From the rate and description I'd say you have the studio, which is still pretty big. And OKW is beautifully themed; I would advise you to check out the website pix at the Disney Vacation Club site (connected to Disney.com, under Disney Destinations, then Vacation Club).

And the transportation vis Disney Bus (or boat to Downtown Disney) is quite convenient, and generally faster & easier than driving yourself. The one exception to this would seem to be coming back from AK mid-day; otherwise, the threads I have seem have been very positive on the transportation to and from OKW.

enjoy!

The transportation system @ OKW depends some what on where your room is. OKW is a large resort and the bus can make several stops within the resort before heading to the destination. We have stayed there twice and took our car everywhere but MK. It usually takes 5-10 mins to get to most places.

Have fun
