Just got back from a week at WL. I though I wasnt returning for about four years, but I find myself thinking about next year. I was looking at the DVC boards and the cheapest way for above average accomodations looks to me to be to buy points from members selling. Old Key West interests me.

Why dont more people do this?

What are the good and bad points of Old Key West?

The only negative comment I could possibly make about OKW is that the pools are boring. They don't have a slide.

Other than that, I love OKW. It's a beautiful resort and the rooms are spacious. I have several pictures of OKW, you can find them HERE. There are links at the top of the page that will show you around the resort. :)

Here is a link (I hope it works!) to thread going on about the pros and cons of renting points from a DVC member.

We are renting points for OKW for the first time for our next trip and have already rented again (from the same person) for a July trip. Seems that it is the way to go, at least for us.

OKW has the largest one br villas out of all the DVC resorts. The 1 br at OKW is very large with a large balcony w/table and 4 chairs. Very, very nice room.
What I don't like about OKW is the location of this resort. This resort is in the same location to major parks as the moderate resorts are and offers less amenities and dining options than the moderate resorts do. Transportation is the same at OKW as the moderate resorts also with bus only transportation to everywhere but DTD which has a boat that holds about 12 people and runs on a limited schedule.
OKW is a home away from home resort that requires approx the same price as the other home away from home resorts or the deluxe resorts yet offers it's guest substanially less amenities, convenience and ease to major parks and dining options then these other resorts in the same categories supply for their guests.
Everyone has different tastes and likes and dislikes but when I pay top dollar for a resort that is supposed to one of their higher end resorts, I expect to get the superior location and amenities that go with the higher price tag for the resort.

We love the Old Key West Resort. We have stayed there twice. I love that you can park right outside your door & that the rooms are very spacious. We have stayed in the 2 BR Villas and everyone (including my very picky mom) loved it and wants to stay there again. The location would probably be the only drawback, but we usually rent a car & drive to the parks so it doesn't bother us. The pools are nice. The pools don't have water slides, etc., but the main pool is pretty good size & lots of fun!! My family utilizes the smaller quiet pools during our mid-day break and usually there aren't many people there which is nice.

All in all, you cannot go wrong with The Old Key West Resort (IMHO) :D

I did and I answered the OP based on my vacation experiences staying at this resort. OKW is a very lovely resort but it is not conventiently located to major parks the way all the other home away from home resorts and deluxe resorts are that have a similiar price tag. For a traveling party that prefers a super convenient location and are used to or expecting a super convenient location like the MK or Epcot resorts, this may be a very big consideration. Location and ease of park access, dining options, etc., is a big thing to many people, especially in a place as big as WDW when guests are often on a limited time schedule and many times do not have a car and are splurging for one of WDW higher priced tier resorts.
