So pumped! Just booked our first stay here in July. Studio near hh. What do I need to know?

Jupers,
How ya been girl? I hope the holidays were good to you. What do you wan to know? OKW is my favorite resort in DVC. HH is close to check in,the main pool and playground. The boat is DTD is also right there as well as Olivia"s Conch Flats which is the general store.

Is a wonderful spread out resort with I think 4 smaller pools ,very quiet with a really nice grounds. When in July are you going ?My wife and I with our 4 adult"kids" will be there july 19-26.

Whatever else you want to know ,just ask.

Hey irv! I see you are from pa...have you ever driven down? We will be in Hershey then are driving down from there. It is a first for me. As far as OKW goes I guess I want to know if you like the pool? My 2 kids will spend the whole week in the pool.

Jupers,
We've driven down several times ,in fact we're driving down this trip as well. It takes us about 13 hrs. We're right outside of Phila. The main pool is fairly large and fun, with the marina and a lot of activities right there. This trip is the first that we're taking with all 4 "kids" 29,26,26,24. We're a blended family, and my wife and I will be celebrating our anniversary.

Hate to hijack, but do you know about the busses? We have a friend staying there whose daughter has medical issues and can't stand for long. Any idea what bus stop is first when going to the theme parks? Thanks.

OKW is a beautiful resort. My husband and I stayed in a studio (bldg 13) last January. It was very convenient to the Hospitality House, Olivia's restaurant, the quick service (mug re-fills), store, boat launch. pool, hot tub, and bus stop. The bus service was terrific, never a full bus! We caught the bus at the HH (there is a bench to sit on while you wait) and if I remember correctly it went straight to the parks. On the way back, HH is the last stop, so you can either stay on for the ride, or get off at the first stop and walk to the HH area (very close). The pool looked like a lot of fun for kids, we only used the hot tub and sauna. We loved taking the boat the DTD. We would love to stay there again, and I think my kids would like it too. Have a wonderful trip!

OKW buses run in this order.

1) Peninsular Rd.

2) South Point

3) Old Turtle Pond

4) Miller's Rd.

5) Cove Rd (Hospitality House)

All the bus stops are covered, and have benches to sit upon while waiting for a bus.

Unfortunately, I think I know the answer to this, but based on some conflicting info, I'll ask anyway:

Are there Mickey Waffles to be found on property??

allears says olivia's has them on the children's menu but adults are out of luck, i guess...

While they are not a menu item at Olivia's, you can request a waffle instead of pancakes on any menu item that has pancakes. Olivia's used to have the standard round waffle maker, but now they have the large Mickey waffle maker. I think it isn't well publicized because they don't have several waffle makers, and it could take longer to make a lot of waffles for a large group.

Trying to avoid a TS credit for waffles, though an early character breakfast isn't out of the question. ;) I've already planned a couple of morning visits to Captain Cooks for them...the kids LOVE those things! I wish they were more available in parks as snacks or CS...

Well, you don't have to use a credit, you could pay out of pocket and save the TS credit for a larger meal.

That is why I never get any DDP, I don't want to feel like I'm "wasting" credits on things I want to eat, rather than on what Disney wants to feed me. And I usually wind up cheaper over the course of a 7 or 8 day trip than what the DDP would've cost.

Well, DUH! I guess I've really gotten too wrapped up to even think straight at this point...step AWAY from the planning spreadsheet! :rotfl: I will keep this in mind for those late-start mornings--thank you!

Incidentally, this will be our third trip, but our FIRST to OKW. Traveling companions say it is just so lovely...I can't wait to see it! :hyper:

Just got back and the Mickey waffles are there for all to enjoy. My wife had one for breakfast. It was on the breakfast menu. I do not recall it stating Mickey Waffle but when it got to our table it was...smjj

Thanks for the pictures! I still can't believe I convinced DH to go...We are from up north but are heading down to Hershey PA, so we are driving from there! This will be our first trip with just the 4 of us, we always seem to bring someone. I can't wait to check out the Beast's Castle!
