My newest adventure is a long weekend at Old Key West. Those of you that love it, please recommend areas best to request and why this is such a great place to stay. I own AKV, stayed at WLodgeVillas and SSR. Now on to OKW and then Beach Club. I LOVE DVC, just never have enough points!

I had never stayed at this resort, but it was the only one available for the short notice trip we took 2 weeks ago. We ended up getting building 62. This was a great location! Don't know if you are going to need the bus system at all, but it is the prime spot for that. On our way TO the parks, we walked over to the HH bus stop (a very short walk) and it was the last stop for the bus before hitting the parks. On our way back, we got off at the Peninsular stop, which was the first stop the bus made at OKW, and it was just a short walk to our room. That in itself was the perfect building for me!

My favorite is BLD 23, for pretty much the same reason as pp, but this is a Hospitality House booking. I think your best bet is to request view. That works best for us. We like upper floor, water view. Or if there is a neighborhood you like more, request that Miller's Road, South Point Road, Peninsular Road or Old Turtle Pond Road. Hope that helps

We like a water view, so we request buildings 45, 46 or 55. 62-64 buildings have elevators, but you can request a ground floor unit. Take a look at the resort map for locations that might be attractive to you. Being close to the Hospitality House and store locations is key for many people; the main pool is also in that area.

OKW is a very laid-back, casual type place where life seems to move much slower (nice when you are on vacation). The units are very spacious and comfortable. CMs are terrific. We love to have a meal at Olivia's; the ambience is just lovely. We think the resort is beautifully themed. We are much looking forward to our umpteenth trip there, after a brief stop (2 nights) at the new BLT! :goodvibes

Are any of these buildings newer than the others or have they all been renovated?

How did you find the bus system there? Did you have to wait long for each bus? Also-- were the buses full on the way to the parks once they arrived at the HH bus stop? That's my one reservation about Bldg. 62... Thanks for the input!

If I had my way I would always want to be directly across the street from the Hospitally House. That way I would be close to the store, the restaurants, the bar, the main pool, the checkin desk, the rental place, etc.
Don't care about the buses I always have a car, which you'll wish you had if you stay far from the action unless of course you like being away from all that stuff.
I'll be there in a week, hope I get my request.

You know, I found the bus system really great there! Busses came around often (esp. the AK bus) LOL. The bus was only one time standing room only. I can't remember what day it was, or why it could have been that way. It was around 8pm. All the other times, it was usually 3 families or so. I am used to the BCV busses, which are always jam-packed with people. I've gotten used to standing all the time. It was weird to be the only ones or almost the only ones on the busses this time. My only complaint is that a couple of the busses make multiple stops, a park and typhoon lagoon, or a park and blizzard beach. That drove me nuts because nobody ever got on or off those stops. Except the one time it was a busy bus.
I was surprised nobody was ever on the busses at HH. Of course we always left early enough for rope drops (8:30 for a 9:00 opening). But we came back to the resort several times throughout our stay in the middle of the day for showers, and even then, the busses were empty.
If you stay there, you'll have to let me know if it was like that for you too, or was it just a strange week when I was there! Hope this helps. Sorry it was so wordy. And have a great time!

We just left (BUMMER) and we were in bldg 51! Right close to the bus stop but the buses turn around right in front of your building. The good thing was we could hardly hear them so that was good (we were nervous about that at first.) It was quite a hike (I thought in 94 degree weather) to walk to the HH from our room! The buses seemed to be really regular but I thought I was brilliant and could beat the bus, not so much and was kicking myself for not just waiting on the bus!HA! Oh well! I needed that walk anyway! We had a small view of the golf course but other than that, not much of a view! We had a one bedroom and it was huge so we were very happy with our stay! We would stay again! :)
