Old Key West + renos

Hi. My continuous obsession and ongoing research of DVC properties from afar continues. I have a ?? (forgive me if this has already been a ? but I can't seem to operate the search forum??)
My question- I had completely ignored OKW and now I am starting to look at it more. Pics I have seen on trip advisor and the disney website to me seem that the bedrooms look a little outdated in decor. Is there a reno/redecor. happening or in the near future?? Anyone know?? Any other feedback on this resort would also be appreciated. (I am seeing some pretty good deals on resale with this resort)

Actually, the resort is constantly undergoing rehabs, but they try to match the original theming closely. It is, afterall, themed like Key West, very Florida. Pastels and light colors, art deco-ish. They have updated to flat cooktops on the stoves, new washers/dryers, etc. What decor components could be drastically changed while maintaining that theme?

They've also replaced the sleeper sofas in the living rooms and mattresses in the bedroooms. But from the outside, the sleeper sofas look just the same.

It only appears that OKW needs updating because the theme is so similar to the styles of the eighties; however, the rooms aren't decorated based on the styles of the eighties but on the styles of Key West. There are several posts of Disney fans who have traveled to Key West and they are often surprised at how much the resort and the island have in common.

this probably just means that OKW just isn't your thing. no big deal.

I agree with the OP. I'd like to see an update on soft goods--I think that is the term used for linens, drapes etc. I don't think they should stray for the Key West theme but just update the rooms to what Key West is today. Fabric styles change and an update wouldn't hurt.

That being said, it's one of our favorite resorts and are staying there in March! It's so peaceful and beautiful.

BUt that's the point....the theme is NOT what Key West is today...it's what Key West was in the early 20th century. It's not supposed to even be as matchy matchy as it is.

This thread is interesting, OP's are complaining about the same reno at the BWV. Some don't like the color of the bedspreads, the couch pattern etc.

When they updated the couches at OKW they did change the fabric color ever so slightly so that it would all still gel together. Personally I love OKW and the decor, it's exactly why I prefer to stay there rather than WLV and AKV.

shhhhh, " its the worse resort i ever stayed at! dont tell everyone how great it is.next thing you know they will be fighting over okw!!! we love dinner on the patio. every trip, first day, steak, baked potoes and corn on the patio!!

dont forget the stain on the carpeting, half the kitchen equipt. is missing and there was a hair on the floor. what a dump!!oh, and the cm at the front desk, completely out of controll, i smelled liqour on his breath when i was there in may.
