Can you tell me what you enjoy about Old Key West. I wouldl love to stay there sometimes and we are going back to WDW in Jan. and am trying to decide if we will try Old Key West. Thanks so much.

  • Size of the villas
  • Parking right outside the villa
  • Laid back resort. Not noisy.
  • Relaxing views from the balcony
  • Good bus service
  • Low point structure
  • IMO, the best 1-B/R layout of all the DVC resorts
  • It feels like a condo which feels more like home. All the others have more of an 'apartment' feel to them.

I can't say enough about OKW. We became owners of DVC when OKW was the only DVC(1994). We have enjoyed way too many stays to count since then. We love the relaxed feeling of the resort, the huge accomodations, the friendly CMs with lot's of "welcome homes" heard thruout our stays-most recent was xmas week 2006. We drive from Boston so we love having our car parked infront of our villa. We love the boat to DTD and also often rent canopy boats and take ourselves around DTD waterway. The resort looks very spread out, but the check-in HH area is really within walking distance of any of the areas, but you can also drive or take a resort bus to the main area. We also like the quiet pools around the resort(sometimes more so than the main area). Out favorite area is off Miller's road, a nice walk to HH area, but very quiet. The tennis courts, shuffle board area and community center for dvd rentals sounds out the best in our opinion. We have always said we could definitely do a vacation there without park touring(but haven't done this yet), we do seem to find ourselves enjoying time around the resort more and more. It was a great place when we our son was younger(we joined when he was 4) and its great now for the everyone.

We absolutely LOVE OKW! We love the quiet, laid-back feel. Parking in front of your villa instead of in a huge lot. The palm trees. The pool areas. The landscaping. The huge size of the villas. The views of the golf course and canal. The boat to downtown Disney, especially around dusk. The location - you can't walk to parks but I always feel like it is very centrally located. The music they play by the pool. OKW feels more like a small town to me than a big, Disney hotel. The low points (we are frugal). Sitting on the huge balcony having breakfast and watching the golfers and wildlife. We love EVERYTHING, truly. I studied long and hard and visited the resorts on the trip before we bought, and it was OKW for us.

We own at OKW, love all the resorts but the larger rooms at OKW are great. The location and quite atmosphire are a bonus.

My sons love community hall for the air hockey table and pool table (DS11 & DS14), as well as the pool, quiet pools for in the evening, basketball and tennis courts, and renting out the board games for game nights (free). My younger ones (DD8 & DS5) loved the community hall happenings. They went to an "unbirthday party" and did a water balloon contest last August.

I love the boat to DTD, the pool area in general, and the tropical, laid back feel of OKW. We made it to the fourth day last year before we decided to go to the parks-and that is with 4 kids!lol It really felt like a vacation with all the pool time and just taking it easy.

Our daughter and your son is about the same age. We almost joined back then too..but were moving to Japan and thought we better not at the time. It looks to be a lovely resort.

It feels like home. I would not stay anywhere else.

I totally love OKW! Last year we decided to try OKW. By day two we had called our guide to do an addon for points there because we loved it so much. Prior we had just BCV and BWV points but wanted to add OKW because it has such a wonderful resort feel to it.

Like most people said the big rooms are just awesome. I like the decor, it is comfy, low key and very homey. The big balconies were a huge plus for my husband; we both loved relaxing out there in the morning with coffee and in the evening to wind down.

My kids loved the little walk in closet they have in the dedicated two bedrooms. They made it their clubhouse for the week. Mousekeeping must have noticed because they left them towel animals in it almost every day (we paid for daily service).

I really like that even when it is busy there it does not feel crowded like some of the other resorts (both DVC and nonDVC)

I am not a bike person and always thought the notion of renting a bike at Disney to be a bit weird. My husband and the kids wanted to do it though one day and I have to say it was a ton of fun. I can't imagine I would enjoy renting one of the bikes at BCV/BWV or SSR though because it was the atmosphere of riding around OKW the made it so enjoyable.

My husband and I always like to rent a boat when we go to WDW and I found the canals around OKW, over to POR and then up to DTD were quite peaceful. Previously when we would rent boats at other resorts we would maybe stay out an hour. At OKW we stayed out for three hours! We even called my folks on the cellphone, had them meet us at the dock so we could take them out for a cruise as well.

My kids loved the playground right next to the pool at Turtle Cove. They had such a good time being able to swim, run around on the play set, rinse off and go back in the water if they chose.

For our family having the OKW points is such a compliment to our other points. If we want a hotel style vacation where we do a lot of parks we can do BCV or BWV. When we want a more relaxing, slower paced vacation where we go heavy on resort activities and light on parks we will always choose OKW!

Well, gosh. Everything I was going to say has already been mentioned. One big plus for us are the CM's there - compared to the other resorts we've tried, the folks at OKW just seem to be much friendlier and more helpful (not that they're not nice at the other resorts, but they're just nicer at OKW).

There are 5 of us, and the bigger rooms really make a difference. Plus, the second bedroom always has 2 beds, not a pull-out couch. The couches work fine, but the 2 beds are more convenient.

The lower point cost per room is also a benefit. It really makes those points go a little farther (which means more trips :thumbsup2 )

We're hoping to try all of the DVC resorts. We've tried a few, and while we really liked them all, we still come back to OKW.

When we go to Disney I don't want to feel like I am in upstate NY or anywhere else then where I am, In Florida.

OKW is the feeling I want, Jimmy Buffet, tall palm trees, florida theming. Perfect. It has a very laid back and open feeling about the DVC. Everyone seems to be happy and nice.

Sure I could have gotten more bang for buck at SSR, but I love OKW.

I can't improve on what Caskbill said! He gave the best concise OKW in a nutshell! We LOVE it, and I agree that it is the best DVC room layout of all!

Once you've been out on the huge balcony, eating out there as a family, sitting around the big round table, the balconies anywhere else seen teeny.

yes to everything so far.

love that only OKW has 2 queen beds in the studio. Now when I am traveling solo I prefer - the other setup. but when have a guest - only OKW will work.

in my opinion, OKW has some very lovely water views. very relaxing. Now no castle in the background like the Polyn. but still the same feeling.
:thumbsup2

Since you guys stay at BW and BC how do your kids like OKW. I currently have ressies at BWV for 4 nights this Aug. before moving to SSR for 5 nights. I am waivering back and forth whether to just do SSR the entire 9 nights or try OKW and then SSR. We only plan on doing EC for 2 days. We went to Disney in Jan. and did major park action. That will be when we do parks probably. We want to really vacation this Aug. More laid back, enjoying the resorts, pools, DTD, water parks and DQ. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. My kids ages are in my signature to help with that. Thanks..

We technically own at SSR, but will be heading down to OKW for the third time later this month. We have also stayed at BWV.

We love the larger rooms, the extra seating the in living room, (sofa, loveseat and chair), the large balconies and the full size w/d in the dedicated laundry room. We put a laundry basket in that room so everyone could throw dirty clothes in there and then they weren't piled up elsewhere. I found that the full size w/d did a much better job than the stacks at BWV. The dryer seemed to take forever to dry things completely.

Goto OKW once and experience the difference!
