Hi everyone. Planning our first trip to Disney since 2004. There will be 4 of us - myself, husband(his first trip) adult daughter, and 5year old granddaughter(first trip for her😊) My husband has MS and mobility issues. We currently have 2 rooms booked at Port Orleans French Quarter. Ours is an king accessible with roll in shower and other room is standard. It doesn’t appear there are any connecting rooms to the king roll in shower so we would hope she would be close by. So getting to my question: I am considering switching over to Old Key West to a 2 bedroom villa. I know some days my husband won’t join us in the parks or do half days and I want him to be comfortable. Are all accessible rooms on the first floor? And if we choose either a roll in shower or accessible tub room which bathroom would that be in? The master with the king, the two queen room, or both? He actually would be ok with the standard room with a shower chair in the separate shower but I can’t take a chance on not having first floor. He would not be able to do the steps. Thank you for your help!

Yes, because of the reason that around 90% of the buildings have no elevators, all accessible rooms are on the 1st floor.

Disney is really good about not doing things like putting roll-in showers on upper floors if there is no accessible pathway.

They also only show those accessible rooms that are *actually* available - and if you book one, it will be removed from inventory (or "hard booked") so that it should not be oversold.

You still won't (typically) know your room number until the day of arrival, but you shouldn't have to worry about the room type.

ETA: if you want more info (and to see actual building plans that show where your king roll-in shower room might be) you can visit PortOrleans.org It's a fan site, and the person who runs it (Andre') is the moderator of the POFQ & POR boards here on the DIS.

POFQ is my personal favorite moderate, because it is so small. Even if your family member was in another building on the opposite side of the Resort... it would be less than a 7 minute walk door-to-door.

Regardless of where you stay, I hope y'all have a lovely trip!

We stayed in an accessible 2 bedroom at Old Key West in June of 2021. It was wonderful! The roll in shower was in the master bath connected to the king bedroom. We didn't really need a roll in shower (our person in a wheelchair is a small child who still takes baths), but it was also totally fine for everyone to use. There was also still a large soaking tub in that bathroom. The other bathroom had a regular tub/shower. As another poster said, all accessible rooms at OKW are first floor since there are not elevators. If you think your husband will want to go to the pool during those rest times, you can also request a room near the hospitality house. That is what we did and it made getting to the pool really easy and nice. It was also nice to be close to the quick service pick up area. We are DVC owners and own at OKW. We absolutely love it! The rooms are so spacious and my kids love the pool/slide. Great resort if you decide to make the switch.
