My mom just got down there today. They told her that they are all booked up and that the North and East Villages are only for owners. They stuck her in the West Village (I dont know how the unit is yet since check in is at 4). I've always heard that it's best to be in the newer villages. She is right on OL Blvd. What would be the best way to get her into a newer unit??

We are going down there on Friday to meet her and stay an extra week. We are also renting another unit with friends of ours.

Any ideas?

looks like they are following through on what they have said they would do....and only allow owners to get into North village and East village.... ( this was information relayed to us by a tour guide at OLCC )

exchangers through rci and renters are suppost to be "placed" in the west village....

that being said, they charge enough in reserve funds each year, that they should be refurbishing the west village on a constant basis....with major rehabs taking place on a lot of the units in the west village now...

of course, your mileage may vary when you get to the front check in .....

we will be there next week too....jan 21 to 28 and are hoping to be in the East Village again like we were in december

I own in the East and North Villages but I have stayed in the West Villages (last time in September 2005 on an exchange from the North Village - I didn't make a request to which area of the resort but I had expected to be in the East/North Villages). I have never had any problems with any unit that I have been in. The West Village single-floor units have a certain charm but may not be for everybody. As lawgs suggested, many of these units have undergone it major renovation and there are soft renovations (paint, replacing cushions, etc.) periodically.

Another factor is that there is a variety of units in the West Village including the Tennis Villas which are exactly the same as in the East/North Village. The Tennis Villas are also right next to the old clubhouse and the recreation activities there.

here are my pictures of the West Villages

we stayed there and loved it.

the only thing it did not have was a whirlpool tub in the master suite. the bathroom in the master was actually smaller than the bathroom in the second bedroom.

very strange.

but everything else was excellent/

you are closer to the front entrance than the other villages. So it is easier to get in and out by US 192.

Thanks for the info. I spoke to her and she said the room is newer so it must have been one of the referbished ones. My only issue now is that its about a 1/4 mile to the pool. I don't think Im going to like driving to take my kids to swim...

Do you think that since this week was completly booked and next week it is no where near booked they could move us on Sunday into a North Village room close to the pool area?

thank you for sharing your photos of the west village. It looks very nice.
We are considering going to OLCC (through RCi extra vacations, we are not owners but our best friends are) and it looks like a wonderful resort.

? if staying in the west village, is there still a HEATED pool within walking distance?
? what are the on site shuttles like? We would prefer to park our car for the week (only drive to theme parks two days) and spend the rest of the time at OLCC using the on site shuttles
Thank you
Suzy

Suzy;

All the pools are heated except for the Olympic sized pool but whether it is in walking distance will depend on where you are located. I've stayed across from the clubhouse, so the pools and activities there were within walking distance. I've also stayed at the very edge of the West Village and while I could have walked, I have driven. My unit in the North Village has been further from the pools than any of the stays I've had in the West Village. There are areas in the West Village that I would drive to a pool as I noted above. It is a large resort.

you can walk to it - but it is a WALK - this\ is one the main checking area that wasn't too far.

that say this is not a place to go to use the pools - there are very, very, very few for such a large resort. Now they are builting a new one and I hope it will take the kids away from the other 2 pools - but this place was not designed well for people who love pools....

they are very, very few and very, very far apart.

we hated the one near us and drove to the one in East wasn't greatly impressed. Too many people - this was near where they have their tours. It was around 4' in the deep end. a ton of kids - but the kids slide was on the other side. so they didn't really come over on the other side that much.
