My son is looking to buy into DVC and wants to buy direct. Is that possible if he's not an owner now? TIA.

Yes, he can get OKW. They just won't offer the new resort incentives. He would have to buy at least 150 points as a new member since that is the new minimum.

I thought only Aulani and Riviera are currently available for direct purchase from Disney?

No you can buy any resort except vgc. They get points to sell through rofr and foreclosure.

I just bought direct a month ago, they said they have most resorts available but some dont have any discounts. I think OKW did have discounts although it was small. I think it was $3 off a point at 150 points, and then a little more off if you went to 175, 200 and so on.
But they did have okw a month ago
OKW direct gets you the extended contract, so 35 years vs 20 years which makes it a better value.

Okay, so those are still original points being resold, just by Disney. So still resale. Ergo, the same as buying resale if you don't get Blue Card benefits. Is that right? Or are you saying you can buy any resort direct from Disney and get full Blue Card benefits? That is something I did not know. I've been waiting for the conversion of Big Pine at GFV to add on to our GFV contract. I don't think my DVC rep knows he can sell me GFV as addon points currently.

No, he will get the Blue Card if he buys direct from Disney...it is no longer considered resale after Disney buys it back. Because they will sell it at full price.

It's just like any market...they advertise and offer the most incentives for stuff in surplus. They have a lot of points to sell for RR and Aul, so more push for that.

Also note that if you go direct through Disney, you will get a 2057 contract expiration date. If you ever decided to start looking at resale for cost savings, many contracts will have a 2042 expiration and some 2057. Just something to be aware of as you're navigating this potential purchase... Good luck!

I appreciate your non answer.Being an owner for well over 13 years I understand everything you said. But you didn't answer my question as to whether DVC was sell ng sold out resorts to non owners.

Not recognizing that you are a 'well over 13 year' owner (my bad), I was trying to add a consideration that is unique to OKW (2042/2057 exp). Glad you're already versed. Check out the add-on tool/page on DVC (lists most sold out resorts), or better yet- call a guide (caution: they may give you more info than you solicit). Have a great day...

Your's was the first answer I saw so I replied without seeing other people's reply. I meant no harm ,I really just wanted to know if a non- owner could buy a sold out resort as my son told me he couldn't
