We are familiar with OKW, but usually stay in HH area. For Easter, it was not available. We will have a 1st floor, for medical reasons, but not a HA bldg. We have 4 kids (8-13) and will have a car. We will be spending a lot of time at OKw and only 1-2 park days. What area should we request--and why do you like it? thanks, Elaine

We stayed in Bldg 62 - with a request for 1st for or elevator due to medical reasons. Loved the location - right next to HH and also had a pretty view of water, fountain and golf green. That was a 2BR dedicated.

We like Miller's Road area. We've gotten building 15 once and 18. They were close enough to the HH for running over to swim, go to Good's to Go, but far enough removed to be quiet.

Haven't been in a couple of years to OKW, but in the past we always liked the Turtle Pond Pool area. Nice playground for the kiddies, great pool and hot tub. Also a snack bar area and small arcade room. Convenient to bus stop, but most areas are at OKW. :)

My favorite area is Turtle Pond. Nice water views in some buildings and quiet. My favorite buildings that I stayed in were 31, 37, 43.

37 was the best:

We like Turtle Pond, too. Of the 3 "village" pools, we think that's the nicest. It's walking distance to the HH area, and it doesn't seem as congested to me as the Miller's Road area does. I'd take South Point, too, although I'm not as fond of that village pool.

If you take out HH area, wouldn't Millers Rd, Turtle Pond and South Point be all the areas left for OKW? If so, it sounds like all have their fans and maybe I just won't bother making a request--maybe I should just say quiet unit away from Main Road? I am paranoid that we will get one of the ones backing to the road, as we will have a very late check in.

We've always had good luck requesting a golf/water view. That diminishes the possibility of overlooking main roadways. Good luck.

Another vote for Turtle Pond. :thumbsup2

The pool area has a snack bar, and if you don't mind walking, it's not a bad walk to the main pool. We were in the very back of TP by the pool, and my daughter (7) and I walked up to the main pool several times.

Here's a map to OKW. I'm not 100% sure what buildings are considered HH, but buildings 23 - 29 are very close. Even building 29 is a short walk. The pool and tennis courts are behind the HH, so it's not as far as it may look.

Just found the info on allears.net on HH buildings:

There are also now two booking categories. For guests who wish to be in the Preferred Buildings close to the Hospitality House, request buildings 11, 12, 13, 14 and 23, 24, 25, 26 when you make your reservation. There is currently no extra charge for villas in these locations. The only way to insure that you will be placed in the Preferred Buildings is to request them when making your reservation.

Here's a bunch more info about OKW!

Thanks for all the info...especially the map. I just viewed the ALLEARS OKW FAQ and there is a lot of great info there. Thanks all you DVC experts!

Where you stay depends on what you want. There is something for everyone. We have always enjoyed the quiet pool areas, especially Turtle Pond, mainly because of the access to the Turtle Shack. However we have also enjoyed walking access to HH. So far we have never been disappointed in any of the locations we have experienced at OKW.

We were in building 52 in January and I thought it was great! It was close to the bus stop. It is the second bus stop which means you should always get a seat. It is near one of the quiet pools. You can always "hop" on any bus if you don't have a car and it will take you to the hospitality house. We have groceries delivered, so trips to the HH are not all the necessary for us.

We've always enjoyed the Turtle Pond area but the last two times we have stayed we have requested (and received) rooms in buildings 45,46, or 55. My wife stated she wanted a view of the canal and all these locations satisfy this while still allowing our daughter access to the bathroom area without having to go through the master bedroom. This is important to us as we book 1 bedroom units. We have stayed in buildings 45 & 55 so far and have enjoyed our stays in both.

Thanks for posting this, I was not aware of this. We've been to OKW once, and must have "lucked out" b/c we had hall access to the BA. Are there specific bldgs to avoid that only have entrance through the MB?

Thanks, Mrs. P.

No problem. Buildings numbered 30 and above have the configuration that allows the bathroom to be accessed through the laundry room and master bedroom. This would be the buildings in Turtle Pond, South Point, and the 3 buildings along Millers Road that have elevators (62,63,64). I may be wrong on the last item, as the only time I have stayed in the 60's buildings was in a grand villa so no problems with bathrooms there :thumbsup2.
