OKW Waterslide - Fact or Fiction?

I have been reading on numerous websites that OKW is adding a waterslide to their main pool. I have also read that this is a rumor and not factual.

I called Disney directly and received contradictory information from them as well. One Disney Rep said yes they were adding one (a very large one) and another Disney Rep said that at the annual meeting they opted against it to keep the renewal rates (and insurance/taxes) at the lowest possible at OKW to keep its resale’s an attractive buy to consumers.

Does anyone know for certain either way?

This is the most important feature to my niece (9 y.o.) regarding any/all resorts and I do not want to disappoint her if there is not going to be one at the time of her visit (Dec 2004) and will seek an alternative resort if in fact there will not be one at that time.

There was an article in this month's Member Clubhouse (which comes right from DVC) about the slide so I would say it's factual. Construction is supposed to begin in September and it should be finished by the end of the year.

It is most definitely fact. There have been concept photos around the net and in the last Vacation Magic. Also, there was an announcement in the latest Member Clubhouse that the slide construction was going to be pushed forward and completed by the end of this year. The new OKW slide is going to happen, and it will happen sooner than most expected.

A slide is most certainly on the way. Here's the latest statement from the DVC Member site:

Construction on the new themed pool slide for Disney's Old Key West Resort is currently estimated to begin in September, and not in the spring as previously announced, with work scheduled to be complete by the end of 2004. During construction of the slide, the pool will have to be closed. However, our Members and Guests are welcome to enjoy the resort's three other pools. Look for more details later this summer in Member Clubhouse and on dvcmember.com.

What dates will you be there in December? There's a good chance the slide won't be completed until later in the month. The main pool will be closed entirely during construction. You may want to book at another resort just in case.

I don't know whether or not this DVC rep was actually at the OKW annual meeting last December, but I WAS THERE (as was Simba's Mom & ChuckS among others). And yes, Sonya, the GM at OKW DID announce a slide would be added to the main pool at OKW. Others here have given you the more recent updates directly from DVC.

It's suppossed to be being put between the Kiddie pool and the main pool -- take a look at the link to Doc's thread that was posted -- it has the artist's sketches
