For those who know about each... Which, in your opinion is "better" than the other and why???

Both are great. OKW is the older resort with much larger rooms. SSR is new and you can get a DTD view at Congress Park. Both have convenient parking close to your villa. Buses are good to and from the parks. SSR still is under construction, but it won't hamper your stay. Both are beautiful with a community feel to them rather than a hotel atmosphere.

Sine they are both DVC resorts, you may want to pose this question on the DVC forums, you'll get more responses. I own at SSR and love it!!! But I haven't stayed at OKW yet, but have only heard good things. If you have specific questions, feel free to ask away at the DVC forums. Let me know if I can help w/anything :)

I stayed at Old Key West for the past 5 years as my mom owned there.

I just had my first visit at SSR ( I just bought in) and what a difference.

My BIGGEST complaint about OKW is the resort layout. Yes, SSR has more rooms, but OKW is more spread out. If you are near the end of OKW, to walk to the main area/pools can easily take 15mins or so. To wait for a bus can be just as long if not longer.

SSR from end to end is about 5mins or so.

I did not notice a major room size difference, but folks SAY OKW is bigger. I just stayed in a 1bed and didnt notice.

Other than the resort layout, I would say they are completely comprable.

I do prefer SSR though.

There's no easy answer. It's all too personal. Stay at each and make your own call. For example, we're members at Old key West and have stayed there many, many, many times since 1992. We spent two nights at Boardwalk and swore we'd never go back. That may be the right decision for us, but I'll bet there are people who always stay at Boardwalk who love it and would hate Old Key West. See what's best for you. Good luck

I like elevators, and so SSR would seem to have the edge for me. Yet, when I needed to save points, I didn't do it, I booked a OKW 1 bedroom, I want to see what the "Fuss" is all about! This is for our June stay.

I think the landscaping at SSR needs to mature a bit before I truly think it would be a nicer place to stay than OKW.

I have to say if staying with small children go with SSR for the elavator. Just returned for OKW loved it but with 2 small ones 5 and 3.5 it was no fun lugging very light stroller up to 3rd floor room. You will not get your room assignment till you get there so who know what floor it will be on.

We own at SSR. I have stayed at both and have to admit that they are both wonderful resorts. Both times were in 2 bedrooms and the rooms at OKW are definately alot bigger there then at SSR. OKW seems more relaxed. I guess it depends on how many people are going, how many points you want to use, what kind of decor do you like. I really enjoyed both of my visits. We will definately go back to both. We are trying them all out before we stay at the same one twice. That's if we can get into different ones within the 7 month period. We're hoping for VWL next. :flower3: pixiedust:
