Is it worth it? That all depends what you're looking for. I own at OKW and absolutely loved it that's why I bought a contract there BUT I now have another love, Kidani Village. I stay there every chance I get. Here are the pluses & negatives for each:
OKW
+ location (you're only a short drive to mostly everything, EXCEPT Animal Kingdom)
+ size of rooms (no other property at WDW has larger rooms than OKW)
+ park right outside your villa (is a big plus if you're hawling a lot of things to your room)
- oldest resort (rooms are not going to be new, however, depends on when you're going, as they are doing a total rehab this year and everything will be bright and shiny soon)
- Disney transportation not the greatest (mainly because there are so many bus stops in the property, you could be the last one off the bus each day)
AKV Kidani
+ newer resort (I do love that new smell....)
+ decor (some love it and some hate it, I LOVE IT!)
+ 2 bedrooms at Kidani have 3 BATHROOMS (with 7 adults, that may be a biggie for you, however, if you book Jambo house, there are only 2 bathrooms in a 2 bedroom room. This is a big plus for me)
+ or - Savannah rooms (I love waking up in the morning and having my coffee on the balcony with the animals - only downside, you may not have that great of a view, not everyone will get the perfect Savannah view. Some Savannah view rooms, only a few that is - those on the Pembe Savannah, actually have more of a pool view and if you lean WAY over, you MAY see some animals. Don't know why those rooms are classified as Savannah. The CM told me that it was PARTIAL VIEW and still classified as an official Savannah view room. I complained and was switched to another room but if they are all booked, you may end up having to keep that room with no reimbursement due).
+ animals (if you're an animal person, you can't go wrong picking AKV)
- location (unless you're spending your entire vacation at Animal Kingdom park and none of the other parks, you're about 15 min. drive or 20 min. ride away from everything else. This doesn't mean a whole lot in the morning but at night, it took us over an hour to get back from MK to AKV due to the buses only running every 20 mins. I had to wait for 2 buses to hitch a ride back)
- parking (although you park under the resort, so it's covered, you could still be a long way from your room. We had to make 5 trips back and forth to get all of our things to our room because they don't let you use the luggage carts, as those are only reserved for the staff use. I don't like to leave all my baggage and have them bring it up for me, especially my last trip, as they said it would be 2+ hours before my bags would arrive. I've heard of others waiting longer. So, I decided to lug all my stuff myself and was totally exhausted afterwards.)
All in all, you won't go wrong with either resort. You just have to decide, which one fits you best.
Well, better run, I'm actually off to OKW for the weekend!!!
Have a great trip!
