Got my mind set on OKW for next year as impressed with the room sizes (and we've never been nor even visited for a day)

We are 2 adults and 1 teen and like the studio with it's 2 queen beds as opposed to a sofa bed to put up every night (as at BCV's) and 390 ft is large!

But the 1 bed sounds amazing - except we're back to the problem of the sofa bed (and extra cost of course). The jacuzzi for 2 sounds good except is it quite large to accomodate 2 rather (it must be said) Pooh sized people? I'm trying to justify the extra cost (to myself).

Also can you tell me more about OKW - it is really out of the way and is there a boat to DTD (Can't seem to find the answer to this one anywhere)

Oh yes - will all the rooms be refurbed by next summer?

The Studios might not feel as large as some of the other resorts since the 2 queen beds take up a lot of space. When the sleep sofa in the other studios is folded up there is a bigger feel.

The OKW jacuzzis are larger than those at most of the other resorts and will accommodate two.

The full sized kitchen and laundry add a lot of value for the extra points required and the King bed also adds to the extra value.

The refurbishment is supposed to be completed in Spring, 2011.

Enjoy! :)

The boat drops you off at Pleasure Island. If you want to go to the Marketplace, there's another boat to take. The boats come fairly frequently. From OKW to the Pleasure Island stop, it's just a gorgeous ride in a canal, and you pass the treehouses and SSR.

If you can swing the points for a 1 bedroom, go for it. The OKW 1 bedrooms are so much larger than the 1 bedrooms at any of the other WDW DVCs. You will be really happy that you splurged when you walk into that 1 bedroom! And the balconies off the 1 bedrooms are really large, with a dining size table and a ceiling fan.

We stayed in a OKW studio for the first time this summer. Although we had a great time, my DH said, "Never again," and he made a phone call for more points. :cool1: Once you have stayed in a one bedroom, it is hard to go back. Beware!!

In the 17 years we have been going to OKW we have stayed is every type of room they have. The Studios are nice sized hotel rooms, the 1 bedroom is a Vacation Home!

Regardless of the resort, if you have a teen with you then go with the 1 bedroom. Having separate sleeping space is necessary. You will have separate TVs in the areas and it will just work out better. Even if mom and dad get up early they can send teen to the bedroom to continue hibernating while they embrace the new day without tiptoeing around.

Totally agree. There are 6 of us total, and after staying at OKW twice, with a stay at POFQ in 2 rooms, we knew we preferred the larger accommodations - so we purchased DVC. Just DH and I on October and we booked a 1 bedrm for 3 nights and then a studio for the last two. The master bathroom at OKW is fabulous. If you have the points, go for it!:goodvibes

It is just so nice to have a kitchen to move around in & even if you don't cook like us, it's great to have a big table to sit at w/ a cup of coffee & a pastry in the morning. I don't know about you but those small tables they give you in the studios get filled up w/ junk & I never have room to sit & enjoy my breakfast.

Plus having the washer/dryer is so convenient. I don't like doing laundry & especially not on vacation, but it's great to be able to throw a load in & leave it drying overnight for nice fresh clothes/towels in the morning. Or even if you don't do laundry, having a dryer is a must if you get caught in a rainstorm, which has happened to us many times.

And like PP said, having a teen or in our case 2 teens, having the separate bedroom is almost a necessity for us now. DH & I like to watch the news & my kids don't and we tend to fall asleep w/ the TV on. Drives my DD crazy & she whines about it, so we love being in our own bedroom where we don't have to listen to her. BTW they never complain about the sleeper sofas so I think they are just fine for a teen.

I agree with others the 1B's at OKW are lovely. I was very excited about staying in a studio there. We have plenty of stays in studios at other resorts. We had one night in a studio at OKW and my DH also said never again. He kept hitting his shins on the large frames of the beds.

I also think you should splurge on the 1bd. Even though the square footage of the studio is bigger, the layout and 2 beds don't really make it feel bigger. And as others said, if you are used to a 1bd studios just don't cut it.
The one bedroom at OKW is so much nicer than the other resorts' it is unbelievable. I really wish Disney had made all the DVC resorts the same way.

That is a really good point - especially as we're thinking of going in August (I know still can't get away from school summer holidays though just yet)
We don't do laundry or cook on vacation, though but have been soaked by the rain several times.

The extra living space would be good for DD - she likes to watch TV later than we do! The only thing that 'bugged' me slightly in a studio at other resorts though was making up the sofa bed every night -we eventually left it as a bed - that's what struck me about the studios here - at least we wouldnt have to do that! How many of you just leave the sofabed as a bed? You just don't want to be making up beds after a late night watching MK fireworks or something - or am I just lazier than most??:rotfl:

I just need to convince DH on the 1 bed thing - we're not actually using points (I just knew you guys on the DVC forum would be the experts on this resort)- we're buying directly from Disney and getting free dining, you see (UK offer) - DH is all about saving money - think I will tell him I've booked a studio and then get the 1 bedroom anyway - it'll be a (nice??) surprise when he gets there.

If you do decide to leave the sofa bed open you still have plenty of room in the one bedroom. Plus the 1BR balcony has a table and chairs which is great .

Honestly I'm not good at making beds period. DH works nights & I work days so the beds are not made too often around here. On vacation? Forget about it! When we get up DD & DS tend to sleep in so after I eat a little breakfast, I usually head out to the balcony w/ my coffee or if it's too hot I'll go sit in the chair in the MB & watch the news. By the time they get up, we're getting ready to go out & we are never back till very late & they usually go right to bed to watch TV & DH & I hit the MB & do the same. If I was lounging around the villa for the day, I would probably throw it together just to have a place to sit, but otherwise...why bother?

We just got back from a stay in the 2-bedroom OKW unit. Not for the first time, but the first time in a few years (we normally do the one-bedroom). It always amazes me how spacious the larger units are! :goodvibesThe studios are great under certain circumstances, but the larger units are truly wonderful. LOTS of space. The bathrooms are great, especially the master bathroom! The kitchen is really nice for preparing quick meals (we like to do mainly breakfast). It is really nice to relax on the porch in the morning or evenings. We enjoy OKW so much....we think you will too!:yay:

One of the perks of not having daily maid sevice is to make the beds or not! I love not worrying about having the villa picked up enough for the maids to come. We do tend to pull the beds together byt it is my choice.

The OP stated she is reserving her OKW accommodations through CRO, not Member Services, so she will have daily housekeeping services.

one bedroom OKW. best value on disney property especially if it is your home resort

That's right - would the maids make up the bed to a sofabed for us - or would it be really rude to expect her to? Maybe if she saw it was being used as a bed she would just leave it as it was? - not sure.

Depends, sometimes they just straighten the bedding and leave it open. Other times they straighten/replace the bedding and close it up. We usually close it up during the day so we can actually use the living room.
