OKW studio couches?

We just looked at the BCV models (and bought 200 points) and the BCV studios are so much more comfortable for two people with the couch instead of two beds. We've been members since '93 and I remember, a few years ago, we were told that when OKW was at the 5 year renovation mark, the studios would be furnished with a sleeper couch and a bed instead of two beds. That five year mark and the renovations came and went and I haven't seen any studio couches. Does anyone else remember this? Are there still plans for couches in the studios at OKW?

I havent seen them yet at OKW. The ones at the other resorts make a studio much more functional. They are clearly for children, As a large adult I can confirm that they are best suited for kids.

I seem to recall that DVC changed their mind on this, because it wasn't what people purchased. They need to be careful when making substantial changes like this because of various timeshare laws.

I agree the studios with a sleeper couch are so much nicer and make the room a true studio apt vs a hotel room with a kitchenette attached. I think about 3-4 years ago there was a questionaire sent out to members and this was one of the things to vote on, along with the pool/slide issue. I received a questionaire but since I did not own at OKW I did not fill it out. I do not know if all DVC members got the questionaire or if I was just included by mistake.
I have had many adults and late teens sleep on the sleeper couch and we have never had a problem. They are the same size sleeper couches that are in the 1 BR villas.

Without trying to offend anyone, I do not think I would like to rent a 2Br unit and end up finding a couch and a bed in the studio half. We bought at OKW knowing that the studio portions of the 2BR units had 2 beds and that's what I expect to get regardless of whether the 2Br unit is dedicated or lockoff.

Now, having said that, I wouldn't have any objections to DVC converting dedicated studio units to having a bed/couch combo, but don't touch the studios which are part of the 2BR lockoff units.

DeeP,
I agree with you. We like having the pullout sofa in the studio of our two bedroom units, it's nice to have the extra floor space.:D

Firefighter Mickey,

Since a "lock-off" or "Dedicated" 2 bdrm is a request, and can not be guaranteed, wouldn't it be better just to leave the 2 beds in all OKW studios? That is one reason we chose to continue adding points at OKW vs the other resorts after our intitial purchase. We LIKE the 2 beds in a studio.

I guess the bed issue depends upon the user's needs. If the studio is being used by to people just as a studio - the couch is beter because there is more room and watching TV can be more comfortable from the couch.

But if the studio is being used as a second bedroom, then there are enough seats in the den area and the two beds work out better.

Interestingly enough, when we first got the info about the studios being converted to bed and couch, I didn't like the idea.
Now that our needs have changed, I'd rather the couch.
So I can see both sides.

I just wanted to mention that at BWV the sleeper couch in the studio is a double, but in the 1BR the sleeper couch is a queen. They are not the same size. I have only stayed at BWV, so that's all I'm sure of, but I THINK that is also the case at VWL and BCV.

I guess I wasn't clear - I like having 2 beds in the studio, but we always get a 2BR unit, and so we have plenty of seating in the living room. OKW does however have a few dedicated studio units (not many, but a few) - if the owners at OKW really wanted it, I think those would be the best candidate for having a couch/bed combo.

Actually though, the wonderful thing about DVC is that people who like the couch in the studio can stay at a resort that has a couch in the studio. No need to go mucking about with the accomodations at OKW when it's likely that most are happy with it the way it is (and no, I don't have any numbers to back this up).

If I've offended anyone, please accept my apologies.

Just putting my two cents in. I agree that a couch makes the studio nicer for a couple. BUT, when you have more than two, it sure is nice to have that "real" bed. It's often my trade-off for not booking a one-bedroom....I get a real queen bed instead of the pullout. I wouldn't want to see them make a change at OKW. ;)

at BWV the sleeper couch in the studio is a double, but in the 1BR the sleeper couch is a queen. They are not the same size.
I have never noticed the sleeper couch in the 1BR to be bigger than in the studio, but then I always get the bed and one of the kids gets the sleeper sofa so I never really pay too much attention and they have never mentioned the size difference either. I guess since they have twin beds at home either size sleeper sofa seems large to them!

I don't think they could make this change at OKW. Thousands of OKW members bought based on the model showing 2 queen beds. This would be a substantial change.

I shared the second bedroom of a 2 bedroom at OKW 3 years ago with a friend. Having the 2 regular beds were nice, I wouldn't have liked sleeping on the pullout.

I AGREE W/ FIREFIGHTER MICKEY RE:THE DEDICATED STUDIO.

I like the 2 bedroom for us when we go w/the kids. I would prefer the "apartment" setting of a couch when just my husband and I go w/o the kids, which has only happened once--it is definately roomier.

We often travel w/my in-laws and the 2 bedroom w/ the studio would be better for them as they would have a little more privacy in their own studio.

Don't you love all of the choices and options we have w/DVC??

Nuh-uh, I like it the way that it is.

I don't remember being told that this was being considered at OKW. Then and again, we joined when it was brand spanking new. They probably hadn't considered a reconfiguration that early on.

I would be disappointed if they did this. Just my two cents.

I 'd like the handicapped accessible studios converted.
The extra floor space would be helpful.
Currently with the two beds you can not get a wheelchaiar onto the small deck!

I asked this question as a poll awhile back!

Linda

I would agree with possibly changing the dedicated studios. I would definitely prefer that all dedicated and lock-off two bedrooms remain with two beds in the studio.

DeeP........You remember correctly. There was a survey sent out several years back and the result was that OKW owners wanted to leave the studio with two queen beds. This is one of the reasons why we bought an add-on at OKW when they had their expansion.

The two queen sized beds suit me just fine. I hate to have to open and close that sofa bed every day. And the queen beds are so comfy.
