OKW, SSR, or AKL?

Hey Guys,

I just wanted to think what you thought of a short weekend trip September 24-26? I was hoping to take my bf down for his 22nd bday.

I know that a weekend sounds kind of short but we just came back form a week at CSR and loved every minute.

Without AP rates out yet or a september code a room at AKL standard view will cost 199 a night. My bf's mother is a DVC member and she is also willing to sell me her points @10 a point for the weekend coming to 200 a night for a studio at OKW or SSR.

I need help, they are all going to cost the same amount, which would you chose?

I would like to try SSR but I heard it is extremely spread out and I wasn't planning on renting a car. OKW is his families home resort and we there for 2 weeks last august. I love AKL and Boma is one of his favorite resterants. What would you do in my place?

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I'd do AKL. From what I'm reading on these boards, September codes should be coming out soon. I used an August code and got a standard view at AKL for $124 a night. I would imagine the next batch of codes will be similar.

I second that about AKL. It is a VERY COOL resort and worst case, it will be the same price as a studio at one of DVC resorts. Codes will likely come out and if they do, AKL will really drop in price.

Go Animal Kingdom Lodge!!! ::MickeyMo

I love AKL. Two great restaurants and great theming. But this place is kinda remote without a car.

However, SSR is only a 10 minute walk to DTD. A nice plus for someone without a car and wants a little variety for dinner. You can also walk to DTD to catch a bus to another resrt for dinner. (At the other choices you will need to take a bus to DTD to trasnfer to the other resort bus.) There are only 4 buildings completed at SSR right now, so it's not too spread out. And, since only 4 buildings are complete, the buses are empty.

The rooms at OKW are the largest of your choices. But this resort is spread out and I'm pretty sure the main pool is closed as they are adding a slide.

OKW's pool is closed and it too is spread our. Since you only have a couple of days I would do the AKL. Plus a discount may come out for your time frame and that would make it more reasonably priced.

I would say AKL too. Fantastic place and a nice one to "get away" at. :)

I also would pick AKL....Love the resort

We are also DVC members and just visited SSR while the themeing is wonderful the resort is huge...right now the buildings that are open seem to be about a 10min walk to the main pool....WOW!!! I was shocked.....they will only have 3 buildings I think that will be near the main pool....

Anyhow I think you would have a much better time at AKL.....

AKL.
We are DVC OKW owners and love the resort.
But DVC points are higher on weekends therefore you are not getting the best bang for the buck paying for points to use on weekend days. If you were talking about weekdays at OKW (8 points) or $80 a night my answer would be different.
We stayed this past April for 2 nights at the end of our trip at AKL and it was fantastic, Boma and Jiko are both excellent restaurants and the Pool was awesome. We did the rest of the world while at DVC and when we were at AKL just stayed at the resort or went to AK.
