OKW - Some Questions

Well, I wasn't going to go to WDW for Christmas this year - waiting to do a big family blow out in 2009. However, I decided what the heck, you can 'afford' to go down for a few days, but by the time I decided this, it was past the 11 month window at my home resort (AKV). So, I am booking a day by day now - and the only place available was OKW. My first question is really, really, really stupid......

Have I been there? i.e. is this the resort that where the DVC tours and sales office is?

How is this resort at Christmas time?

I have a two bedroom booked and we are 7 (5 adults and 2 children). I am thinking I will take the master bedroom (my points, my king size bed :thumbsup2 ). The other four adults in the second bedroom. Now for the kids - we can put them in the sofa bed, however, I'd like to avoid opening and making the bed everynigh, plus I'd like for the adults to be able to use the living room while the kids sleep. So my question is, will the put a roll away bed in the master? The oldest child will sleep in the king size bed and the youngest (4 years old) could sleep in the roll away.

One last thing, how is the bus service - and what room requests (as far as location) should I make to get close to the bus stops

Thanks

You may have been there, depending upon when you took the tour. OKW is the original DVC resort However, the sales office has not been at OKW for about 10 years or so. It is more likely you went to the sales office at SSR.

No rollaway beds or cots are available at DVC resorts, you can supply your own air matress or sleeping bags, but DVC will not provide additional bed linens.

There are 5 bus stops located conveniently throughout OKW, you're never very far away. There are 4 pools at OKW, all are nice. Only one pool, near main check-in, has a slide, but all have hat tubs and sandy childrens play areas.

There really isn't a "bad" location at OKW. Though I personally prefer NOT to be in bldgs 27 to 29, simply because the balcony view is not so great in those buildings.

Also know that there was a design change, buildings 29 and under have one entrance to the master bath, through the master bedroom. Buildings 30 and higher have a second bathroom entrance through the laundry room.

Be aware that there are no elevators at OKW, except in bldgs 62, 63 & 64, and they often try to hold those for people with mobility issues

Thanks Chuck for the great info. I just pulled up the map on dvc.com and boy it's HUGE !!! I had no idea. I think the one I was at was SSR that I was at - it was just this past August.

Robind - when are you going to be at OKW? When you called did they happen to mention how the availability was at OKW? My friend is letting us use some points for Dec 1 - 5 and we want to stay at OKW, I think she was going to just call on 5th to book all nights but if you have any idea on the availability please let me know if you think I should have her start calling today and do the day by day? :confused3

I'm just afraid of not getting a room. We just need a studio. Thanks!

Have your friend call ASAP because studios will be the most difficult ones to get late.
