My family - myself, DS 16 mo. and his dad will be staying at OKW for the first time in Oct. and I have a few ?s.

First - I saw a mention that there are dvd players in the rooms, replacing VCRs - is this true?

Second - is it at all possible to request a crib should my son decide not to sleep in the pack n' play.

Third - It was recommended to me I request a 1 br in bldgs 22-26 as I don't want to be too far from a bus stop (preferrably the first since we'll have a stroller and will need a seat with my son) and somewhere quiet at the same time. I was also told I should request a first floor room as there are no elevators. Has anyone had problems with above noise when on a ground floor?

Anything else I need to know?

We're planning on shipping some items down fed-ex ahead of time and I'm told that should be ok (diapers, etc?) Has anyone else done this?

Thanks! Sorry so many ?s

Your requests look fine. But be aware that requesting first floor, you may be assigned to a handicap room, as they are all on the first floor in most of OKW, as the resort has no elevators. Bldgs 22 to 26 have entry to the bathroom through the Master Bedroom only (which shouldn't be a problem if the little one is only 16 mo.). The second entry through the laundry room begins with bldgs 30 and above.

As far as the crib, I would call the resort directly and ask, as it has been reported that some resorts no longer have cribs. The OKW number is 407-827-7700 You may need to rent one from an offsite company.

There is no problem shipping ahead of time...be sure to put your name and arrival date on the box so bell services knows when the box will be needed.

There may be a few VCRs around, but most have been replaced with DVDs. If you happen to have a VCR, you should be able to call housekeeping and get a DVD.

FYI, building 22 is quite ways from the Miller's Road bus stop, and my have traffic noise from the Bonnet Creek Parkway now that the trees are thinned out from the hurricane. Buildings 23-26 will all be near the Peninsular Road bus stop, and within easy walking distance to HH, but will not have a second door to the bathroom from the living room. Peninsular Road is the first bus stop when coming into the resort. That means you will be riding all through the resort when leaving for the parks unless you first walk to HH which is the last bus stop. It really is the best of both worlds though. You are the first bus stop coming home, and a fairly quick walk to the last bus stop going out.

I have never heard of anyone getting a real crib at OKW, but I haven't tried either.

Sorry, our request is for something in bldgs 23-26. I like that we could hop on the first bus so I can assure we get a seat with my son. I don't know if that would be possible if we hopped on at the last stop. But I do like we could get off there first coming back, if that's right.

Also, could someone tell me what kind of grocery items are available on site? Would it be more extensive then at a regular Disney resort (like POR) because there are kitchen facilities?
Just curious b/c we're taking a towncar and I am debating on whether I should do a grocery stop and just pick up a limited amount of things - getting some others at the resort, or if I should have groceries delivered.

Thanks!

I went with DME and grocery delivered...

but with a towncar you are already paying for it - so get a grocery stop.

OKW didn't have DVD players as of November 2005. Buildings 23-26 will be a short walk from the bus stop and be very convenient to the main pool, Olivias and the general store.

There are some items for sale in the shop, but it's not extensive. If you're taking the towncar you will be able to get exactly what you need on a grocery stop.Just a thought-you might want to price having the groceries delivered and taking ME (which is free). It might be less expensive.
We were in a ground floor 1BR last week and we did hear the little boys above us once in a while, but they were playing and were making alot of noise-we never heard anything otherwise.

Interesting comment, since we did have a DVC player in October '04, December, '04, January '06 and March '06. Maybe the unit you were in was one of the last to get them.

There should be DVD's in 1 bedrooms and larger. Did you stay in a studio?

Oh that's cute! :goodvibes
Is that a special DVD movie machine available only to DVC members? :happytv:

We stayed in a studio last August and 2 BR in November. I know that we had to use our portable dvd player in the studio and thought we did in November but I was probably wrong about not having one in the 2 BR. I'm sure that we took our portable dvd player with us on the Nov. trip and that is why I thought there wasn't one in the room. Sorry if I was incorrect.

Second - is it at all possible to request a crib should my son decide not to sleep in the pack n' play.

My confirmation for our September trip states "request crib" as one of my requests. When I made it I asked and was told they are available. The second time I called to add the dining plan the CM who took my info about how many adults and children etc. also asked if we wanted a crib and then noted it was already on the reservation. We are traveling with a 4yo and very active 16 mo. Now of course it depends on whether one is available. I just hope it doesn't limit us to a first floor room as I prefer upper floors even though it means that knee killing climb at the end of the day. Maybe I will add that request when I call today to add DME. I understand the cribs are the metal type that were used in hospitals etc. - guess that is for cleaning purposes.

We certainly had a DVD player in our 1BR last Christmas.

The studios did not have VCRs or DVD players. We had a DVD player in our 2 bedroom in March 2004 and March 2005. There was a DVD player in the GV we stayed in this March.

We stayed at buildings 11 and 14. 11 was great b/c it's a very short walk to HH shorter than bldgs 23-26. 14 was noisy.

Noisy due to people, or noisy due to traffic?

We had a 2 bedroom unit on the 2nd floor of 14 in the middle of the "H" and had no noise from people OR traffic. I suspect anyone who had rooms on the left side of the building might get some traffic noise.

We are staying at OKW in August and have a crib requested as well. DS will absolutely not sleep in a pack n play. He too is 16 months old and will be 18 months by then. I have spoken to the hotel directly a few times, plus asked to be transferred to housekeeping. The answers I get on the crib vary with each person I talk to. I am kind of at odds on this. I know I can rent one, but it is pretty pricey and I hate to do it if they do have them available.

We have had them at BWV and BCV with no problems. They were both metal. The one at BWV was full sized and wonderful. The first one we got at BCV was way smaller and had a wafer thin mattress. We asked for the largest one they had after a very rough night of sleep (or lack of). We got the same kind as at BWV - nice large metal crib. Just beware they come in different sizes, plus different mattress thicknesses etc.

If anybody goes and can report success or not with a full sized crib, please report!

You are right - we had a 2BR second floor on the left corner of 14 by the parking lot. The noise was from the buses coming in and out of the resort past the guard booth because of the stopping and starting as they went through. We did not however hear much noise from the wind caused by hurricane Jean while we were there.
