OKW is great for seniors, but it is a large resort. And it takes a little pre-planning. So if you are planning to dine at the Olivia's it can be a walk.
But there is a solution, you can hop on any park bound bus, the bus stop at main check-in, Olivia's and the Resort Store is the last stop before the bus leaves for the park. Be sure to mention to the bus driver that you will be getting off at Hospitality House.
To return to a room that is away from the Hospitality area, walk across the bridge to the Peninsular Road stop, and again, hop on any park bus.
Also, there are only 3 buildings with elevators, so if stairs are a problem, be sure to get hold of member services and request a ground floor unit or elevator building for medical needs. More than 1/3 of all units are ground floor, so it shouldn't be a problem getting one.
If you're looking for a Grand Villa, though, and have problems with stairs, be sure to reserve a
Handicap GRAND VILLA well in advance, as there are only 3 GVs that don't have stairs to the entry door. 2 of them in Bldg 63, and a ground floor entry in Bldg 48. The 3 buildings with elevators at OKW, 62, 63 and 64 which were built after changes to the ADA. I'm a senior, and OKW is my favorite resort, and every other senior I've traveled with also likes it best, too.
If you're looking at a studio, remember that OKW studios have 2 real queen beds, and no couch, and can feel a bit cramped depending upon the traveling party. The one and two bedrooms are quite spacious. Also remember, that every Studio and one bedroom at OKW are lock-offs, so be sure the connecting door is locked unless you're using it as a two bedroom.
There are several good OKW room tours on
YouTube, just search for OKW Room Tour and whatever size unit you're interested in.
