Just came home last night! Our room was 4214 - 2 bedroom main floor.

The master bathroom had two 6x6 tiles pulled away from wall to expose a rather large hole under sink area! The kitchen cupboards had broken shelves on the base cupbords by the table, the ones next to the sink were broke as well. The patio door was missing the wood trim over the blinds. The second bedroom tile was broke away from the wall in two spots.

I love OKW - but I was totally bummed out that our room looked like the Gator Motel!!

To add insult to injury - each time we came in to the resort we were met with everything but Welcome Home!!

I took digital pictures to send to member services.

I brought two couples with the intention to buy - neither did.

This seems to be a recurring theme. I would certainly let them know about your guests as well. The past couple of trips we've had made us realize that we would be embarassed to invite anyone with us the way things are now.:confused3 :sad2:

Okay as long as I am on a role - At Easter - we were in building 55. There was a sick rat wandering by the pool and hot tub each night. Again I took pictures! We had three couples with us two were visiting from the Grovsner. I was mortified!!! I almost threw up - We were going on and on about how nice it was and the value you would realize over the years and Bam!!! Jumbo sick rat!!! It almost fell in t he hot tub!! I called up front and told them how embarrased we were. They never sent anyone!! We seen the rat 3 nights -it was clearly diseased. Others said that they seen after us. I sent in pictures and never heard one word! I was bummed out. Of course everyone was joking does the mouse come free with the house...ha ha ha...it is the mouse house...ha ha ha...My husband and I could have honestly died right there. Oh and by rat did I say JUMBO RAT...Yes it was at least Nine inches long and five inches tall with at least an eight inch tail... No it was not an Opossom..it was a huge sick rat!! I know it is Florida, but someone should have came ASAP and dealt with the sick animal - call me kooky!:guilty:

We just got back Sunday. We were in 2332. Beautiful room with a great view. There were a few few minor things that I found wrong and I did call maintenance the morning we checked out. The few things were: one door on the living room tv armoire was broke and wouldn't close, the faucet on the sink near the jacuzzi was drippy, the cutting board was missing. To me these are minor things but if they are not aware of the problem how can it be fixed? Also, on T&T day, all we got were new towels. No new shampoo/conditioner, Tide, etc. I think my friend stopped at the front desk and mentioned it to them. When we got back to the room there was a bag hanging on the door with bar soap and conditioner in it.

I appreciate the room reports since I keep all of them for OKW. That sick rat would have really grossed me out-and scared me!

Those are minor things, but when they keep happening over and over again, which appears to be the case at OKW, they add up to poor maintenance. We have stayed at OKW many times since 1994 and we have never had the amount of problems as we have had this year. IMO, the maintenance and housekeeping are not what they used to be.

Well, naturally as soon as I decide I'll go for OKW, I hear about problems. I realize it's the oldest property..but rats????

Ditto. We are staying at OKW in January and bringing family. This is their 1st trip ever to Disney. I always rave about our DVC and how magical Disney is. I just want the trip to be perfect and now I have my doubts about OKW. I wonder if I should switch to SSR.

I just posted on a thread where someone who had trouble with room cleanliness at SSR. Seems like every DVC resort is reported as having dirty rooms upon check-in on these boards. What is going on and what is our best bet to get them to hear our voices? We pay to have these rooms cleaned. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect a nice clean "home" when we arrive.

And I guess another question would be: Are they having trouble with the cash resorts as well???

From some things I've read on other a # of other similar threads, they may be deliberately "shorting" Mousekeeping staff in an effort to save $$$..

I would like to know how much $$ is budgeted out of our annual dues for Mousekeeping, and how much $$ is actually spent.

Odd, now that you think of it. We were at Grand Californian last year and we didn't even get cleaning one day, and that was the day after we had left a tip. We only got turn down service once. Very odd for room that runs around $300.00 a night.
Previous visits we had no issues at all.

We own at BWV's and only had a couple of minor problems that were dealt with quickly. NOW, we decide to try another resort and chose OKW and NOW I read this!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm okay for minor problems BUT a BIG, SICK rat would send me out of there quickly!!!!!!!!!!! Hope we (and our guests) don't have to deal with things like that.

OK, don't flame me, I agree that broken things and lack of cleanliness are sub-standard and not worthy of Disney. It amazes me that they would let things slide as they are trying to entice us to lengthen our memberships...

But as far as the rat...it is Florida and it was outdoors, right? Rats and other creatures do tend to grow larger there, and Disney can't control the out-of-doors.

I would be very surprised if Disney didn't put out pest control as a matter of course, especially around water areas. I know other places do. My guess is that the rat may not have been sick but rather was being handled, (if you know what I mean.) The way I've seen people handle those types of creatures in similar areas is to put out a poison that makes them thirsty, and they do eventually die.

I just got back from a quick trip with my brother sun-wed begin of Oct. I own at SSR and he is thinking about buying at some point. I have never stayed at OKW and after booking started to see the OKW cleanliness threads. I think its like once you buy a car you see the same one everywhere.
We got there and checked in no problem, everyone was GREAT!! and they were able to offer a choice of ready rooms. We picked one but once we got to it it smelled like smoke pretty bad. One call to the front and they moved us in about 10 mins no problem. The next room was MINT!!! They may have been recently rehabbed but I mean MINT. We even saw some touch up painting and powerwashing of the outside while we were there.
Sorry I cannot remember the room #'s

Nunzia Dont worry and dont be hypersensitive and I bet it will work out fine!

Thanks! Now I am just waiting for the right size contract to buy.

We just got back Monday. DW was in an OKW 2br with 3 friends for a Wed to Wed stay for golf and parks. She did say the room needed a little rehab. It wasn't bad but it did need some work. From Wed to Monday, I was allowed to participate and we had 2 other couples in a GV (1522). DW checked us in at 9AM and we actually had a room by 4PM. The GV was in very good shape. No problems at all.

When she checked in DW thought the unit we were being assigned might be a formar smoking unit and she mentioned she would not be happy with a smoke smell, the CM at the check in said all the former smoking rooms had been rehabed to eliminate the smell. She also said that there are some who do not comply with the no smoking and when a unit is bad after a stay, the party smoking in the room is billed for the extra cleaning.

I guess the issue with shabby rooms is probably a function of the rehab schedule. They really can't take to many units out of service at once or we wouldn't have anywhere to stay. As far as cleanliness is concerned, that is a mousekeeping issue and there may be a combination of cutting back and or not being able to recruit enough help.

FWIW,

Just got back from 2 1/2 weeks at OKW (1 bdrm and 2 bdrm). Rooms/beds and all appliances in great shape, property well maintained, and greeted with a welcome home every time we drove through the gate (almost daily). Doesn't help the OP, but I thought things looked better this trip than I've seen in previous. We've been owners at OKW since '93 so we've seen changes over the years...but thankfully these were for the better.

Best of luck to all,

ATCMickey

Very true. A couple of months ago, there were several threads about various species of snakes at BCV and a lot of people were freaked out.

It's also interesting that if we see a squirrel or chipmunk, we think they are SO cute. But if we see a mouse or rat, we cringe. They're all rodents, folks!

Virtually all of WDW is heavily wooded and you might encounter all sorts of wildlife -- from sweet whitetailed deer and cute squirrels to snakes and alligators...and skunks, and tree frogs, and yes, even cockroaches! :scared1:

We have owned property in Central Florida for over 24 years. Florida does have many more bugs, insects and wild life in it's natural habitat compared to other states. However, rats are not in this group. Rats come from decay and filth and are not part of Fl's nature habitat. Disney can most certainly control the conditions that would bring on a rat infestation.
