OKW Room Allocation

I read elsewhere on this board that rooms are now allocated on arrival, not according to our stated preferences at time of booking. If this is indeed so, this means that members such as myself who are travelling from the UK will have little chance of our preferences being met, since flight times make it impossible for us to check in before 8pm.

Any advice?:(

They will probably save a room for you with your preference regarding non-smoking and as near to your request as possible. What this means is that when people arrive they will get their choice of rooms and better yet some that are available without having to wait. This is the way it was done years ago. I think things got carried away with room requests beyond non smoking and smoking anyway. All the rooms at OKW are just great so what difference does it make unless you have some medical problem which I am sure they will accomodate.

I'm not sure I can totally agree with Pa@OKW95 on this one. I have talked with two DVC members who had ressies for non-smoking/medical reasons and were given smoking rooms! I'm sure this is unusual--but it can and does happen. There are other ressie requests that can be important. For example, a family requests a dedicated two bedroom because of security issues with little children--and they get a lockoff; or the reverse, where a lockoff is needed and the family gets a dedicated unit. There is also the "extra entrance into the master bathroom situation." Depending on who might be sleeping in the living room, that extra entrance could be quite necessary. All the rooms at OKW are great--and the various views are wonderful too--but this new room assignment system can cause real problems for people. If you are going to arrive late in the evening, the only alternative seems to be to stay off-property on your arrival night and check-in to OKW early the next morning. Personally, as someone who makes ressies at the 11 month window, I am very unhappy about this new system.

I think that it is wonderful that so many of us think that all the rooms are great at OKW. but my family has definite preferences and have always booked at 11 months to give us a good chance at getting our choice. Personally , I think that this new system stinks and is just a way for the staff to appease those who check in early and make a ruckus about not liking their assignment at the expense of those of us who can't get to the resort early in the day.

I always stay at the Hilton DD the night before(Saturday) and arrive at OKW about 9 to 9:30 in the morning, it is a long wait until 4 PM for what may be no reason at all other than all the rooms have been given out. I went through this new process at OKW this October, they tell you what building you are going to be at but do not tell you the room. This way if you don't like the location you can change it. I got my room at 2 o'clock which made me very happy. I spend an awful lot time at OKW during my vacation rather than the parks so this worked out better for me. This January I think I might get my room when I check in which would be like old times. What a treat that would be for me. We leave on check out day about 4:30 in the morning so it would make our stay at OKW seem a little more normal having arrival day as a day at OKW since we do not really see the light of day on departure day.

Is this for sure how it's being done? I thought (or maybe I just wanted to think) that this "room assignment at check-in" was just a rumor that turned out to be false. We get so much false info from CMs that I'm not sure. I guess I just want this not to be true.

Thanks for the comments, folks.

I have emailed member services asking about this. I shall post any response that I get. I think it stinks, and it discriminates against those of us who have a long way to travel.

BTW, I bought into DVC so that I didn't have to stay "off-site"! I shouldn't have to pay for a hotel room on my first night just so I can get my requested preference the following morning at OKW!

I agree with the above post. I didn't buy into DVC (500 pts) to stay off-site . And booking your ressies at the 11 month window(which we do 98% of the time) should give you "preferance" over someone that books a ressie at 3 months and gets at OKW at 9:00 am. I think if DVC takes a survey among members, the majority wold vote to keep the ressies the same(11-7 month) especially on the room assignments.
